Email Servers
Avast Business Antivirus can be installed on a server operating system. Ensure you do not install the Web Shield or Mail Shield components on your server, as this will interfere with mail delivery. See No SMTP Server Defined Error in Avast Business Antivirus.
Proxy Servers
If you are behind a proxy server, you will first need to ensure your proxy settings are configured in your device's internet settings (Start ▸ Run ▸ inetcpl.cpl ▸ Enter ▸ Connections ▸ LAN Settings ▸ Proxy Server). Once these are correct, you can run the installation of the client as normal.
After installation, do one of the following to configure automatic updates for the client:
Method One
Allow the devices to connect directly to ping.avast.com. This is the simplest solution, and will allow the client to make direct connections to retrieve their updates, bypassing the proxy server.
Method Two
Do the following on each device:
- Open the Avast Antivirus UI.
- Open Menu ▸ Settings ▸ Troubleshooting ▸ uncheck
Enable Self-Defense.
- Click Ok and close the UI.
- Run
notepad.exe
as an administrator. - Open
C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\avast5.ini
- Add the following to the end of the file:
[InetWD]
AssumeAlwaysConnected=1
- Save your changes and close the notepad.
- Re-enable Self-Defense by reversing the earlier steps.
Devices will now be able to automatically update.
You can verify the settings are correct in the client UI under Settings ▸ General ▸ Update ▸ Use specific proxy server.
