This article addresses what to do when you are unable to remote into a Windows 8 device. Sometimes, it originally appears as if it is going to connect however the screen flashes and disappears.The following two settings must be configured in order to allow Remote Desktop.
The first step is to configure the firewall exception to allow remote desktop. Just put a checkmark beside Remote Desktop. It will enable the Private option only. Also check the Public option if required. Then click OK to save the settings.
The second step is to go to the Control Panel and click on System. Then click on Remote settings at the top left.
Now check Allow remote connections to this computer.
Then uncheck the Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication (recommended). (It will not work until this box is unchecked). Then click Apply to save the settings.
