Change the AVG Managed Workplace update services URL or port

In some smaller AVG Managed Workplace Environments it may be necessary to have clients check into the Managed Workplace URL using the Onsite Mangers IP address rather than the default hostname. It is also possible that the ports used by Managed Workplace Update Services may conflict with other services in your environment.

To change the URL used by the patch agents, you must modify the MWExpertSystem.exe.config in the Onsite Manager Bin folder in the following default path:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Level Platforms\Onsite Manager\Bin

NOTE: It is recommended to create a backup of this file prior to making modifications. Any malformed XML data in this file, or invalid entries could prevent the MWExpertsystem from initializing properly.

Change the ports used by Managed Workplace Update Services

  1. Open the MWExpertSystem.exe.config in Notepad and locate the following section:
    <UpdateServices>
    <!-- changing the ports or the machine name will require a restart of the MWExpertSystem service
    and manually openning up the ports in the firewall. -->
    <add key="WuaServiceBinding" value="http://0.0.0.0:7204" />
    <add key="UpdateDownloadBinding" value="http://0.0.0.0:7205" />
    <add key="OmMachineName" value="" />
    <add key="SelfUpdateFolder" value="C:\inetpub\wwwroot" />
    </UpdateServices>
  2. Modify only the port numbers in the WuaServiceBinding and UpdateDownloadBinding values.
    Example:
    <add key="WuaServiceBinding" value="http://0.0.0.0:7208" />
    <add key="UpdateDownloadBinding" value="http://0.0.0.0:7209" />
  3. Restart the MWExpertSystem service.
  4. You may wish to browse to the following URL in Internet Explorer to ensure the service is listening:

    <p>http://<OMMachineNameValue>:<WuaPort>/selfupdate/wuident.cab</p>
    <p>http://<OMMachineNameValue>:<DownloadPort></p>

    <p>Examples:</p>

    <p>http://MyOnsiteManager:7208/selfupdate/wuident.cab</p>
    <p>http://MyOnsiteManager:7209</p>

    NOTE: You must ensure that these ports are not blocked by any firewall.
