Thunderbird

I can't access my Sky/Yahoo email through Thunderbird, until I turn AVG protenction off. A verify certificate pops up on Thunderbird if it's turned on, but it won't let me verify it. How can I prevent this?

Hello Rob,

I will assist you further.

Please follow the below steps and check if that fix the certificate error in Thunderbird.

* Open AVG, Menu, Settings, Components, Email Shield - Customize, SSL scanning, then export Certificate

* From Thunderbird : Tools, Options, Advanced - Manage Certificates, Authorities - Import

* Select the exported certificate from AVG

* If it is already installed AVG certificate, delete it first and then import again.

If you face any difficulties, please let us know and we will assist you further.

Hello Rob,
I really appreciate your effort in trying to resolve this issue.
May I know the AVG program (AVG Internet Security/AVG Antivirus free) you're using for your computer protection? I also request you to disable AVG components one by one (open AVG protection > Menu > settings > components) and check which component is blocking Thunderbird emails.
Regards,
Alok.

Thank you for your assistance. I am using AVG Antivirus Free. I disabled Email Shield, and I can now received emails without the certificate warning.

Hi,

I just started testing AVG free (german) as I am too annoyed by my old antivirus and internet security program. However, I am not able to use Thunderbird anymore (alike so many other users). Thunderbird does work as soon as I turn email protection off. Though, there is litte use in an internet security program that does not cover emails. I cannot add the security exception for the certificate. It simply won't work - the same way it wouldn't work for Rob.
Cheers,
John
P.S. it is already 2019... I hope you found a solution on the issue

John, if you have a paid subscription of AVG Internet Security, please contact our technical support team (http://avgclick.me/AVGtechnical) for further assistance.
John SmithJohn Smith
No, I do not have a paid subscription, as mentioned above. I cannot see any reason to buy a software that does not work properly on a free version.
