Is Google Chrome Elevation Service exe a Virus Not Picked by AVG?

Hi Guys,

I have AVG Full Internet Security installed on my PC but recently I have seen High CPU and Disk Usage randomly going up and above-average making my laptop sound like a jet at times. So I started to dig deeper and performed a full system scan that took a few hours but nothing was picked by AVG, I did some research and opened task manager and saw elevation_service.exe causing high spikes in usage.

scanned the chrome folder by AVG and it still doesn't pick it up or get rid of it, before someone blasts at me for not googling the issue and I followed this tutorial https://securedyou.com/what-is-google-chrome-elevation-service-exe/ which shows it is a chrome service and it does help me disable it but upon computer restart it comes back, is this a virus rootkit that comes back? Any help or guidance is appreciated thank you.

Hello Craig,
We're glad to look into this for you.
Elevation_service.exe is a standalone executable, installed by the Chrome browser on user’s computer, you’ll find it in this location C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application
Please reset your web browser settings to default and verify the status. Could you share the screenshot of Task Manager displaying AVG's CPU usuage?
We'd also like to clarify that updated AVG program will always prevent your device from emerging threats and malware attacks.
You can post the screenshot here in your topic. Click on "Answer" & then click on the "Image" [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.

Hi, Thanks for the suggestion so I tried what you said to reset the browser and so far so good and I also had a pending update on AVG which I performed, I did another full scan of the system and it came out clear, laptop is quite again and that exe process from the task manager has disappeared (for now) I haven't yet rebooted to see if it comes back, thank you for your help :)
