AVG FREE 19.4.3089 has red x on tray icon

I have AVG FREE which told me to update which I did. It now has a red circle with X in it. When I mouseover it I get the message "Antivirus Free You Are Protected with a white checkmark on it. What is with the red circled X and how do I get rid of it. It is irritating since I have to keep mousing over it in case it has changed its message!

Thanks for any help.

Hello Ruth,
Let me clarify it for you.
It looks like an update or reboot is required by the AVG program, so it has marked as 'X' on the icon of AVG AntiVirus free on your PC. Please reboot your PC once and keep us updated on the progress.

Thank you very much. I had rebooted just after I updated. There is a screen that says, more or less, AVG must reboot your computer with an option to click for reboot or choose to wait x number of minutes. So I did click reboot. However, after your suggestion I rebooted the computer again and it worked, no more red circled x. Perhaps there is something that doesn't register in Windows 7 or AVG if you reboot using their window? But the second reboot works, so thanks very much.

I have similar problem. My internet security says AVG is not up to date. There is a newer version. However, it cannot update itself or manually by me. The current version 19.3.3084. So failed to update to 19.4.3089. Any suggestion?

Hello M B,

We are sorry to hear this. Perform repair of AVG Internet Security program as mentioned in this article.
After the restart, check whether it is updated to the latest version.
Thank you.

Bala, what article? There is no link in your response to any repair article?

My program is up to date, but half the time that I turn on my computer there is a red circled x on it. It says I am protected on mouseover. So sometimes it doesn't have that x sometimes it does. It's just irritating since it is up to date  19.4.3089 (build 19.4.4318.455)
