DataSafe

How do you relock the dataSafe after opening it without restarting the computer?

Hello Pat,

The AVG data safe feature is no longer available with the latest version.
May I ask the version of AVG Internet security that you use? To check that, click on "Menu-->About" from the Internet Security program interface.
Could you be specific with the data safe "relock" concern, as it wasn't entirely clear?

I am using version 19.2.3079 (build 19.2.4186.436).

I have DataSafe in my documents folder.  I can open it with my passowrd and add items, but when I am done there is no way to relock it.  It will relock if the computer is rebooted.  If it is no longer supported I may want to rethink using it.

Thank you for the detailed information.
The reason is because the feature has been discontinued and you will no longer be able to use it.
Hence, we request you to copy the files saved in data safe to a different location and delete the safe.
We have introduced a new feature named "sensitive data shield". To know more about it, refer this FAQ.

I have lost access to a spreadsheet file of all my passwords and login names that I protected using datasafe. For a long time it was still possible to open it even though AVG had replaced it with Sensitive Data Shield (SDS). Now when I run datasafe from the desktop icon it just hangs and I have to re-start  Windows to killit. SDS bears about as much similarity to Datasafe as a bumble does to a jumbo jet. It is totally unsuitable as a replacement for datasafe. In desperation, I tried running SDS because there were some claims it could recover datasafe but it cannot do that. In fact, it seems to have no practicable function because you cannot choose files to protect. What it did was to scan my entire system and propose protecting 6000 files as sensitive. Some of these files are government advice in the public domain which I had downloaded as pdf. What is that all about????

I will have to re-create my spreadsheet  of personal data but I discover (what I should probably have known already) that MS Office can encrypt files with a password.so I will use that functionality in future and I suggest AVG stick to protecting our systems from the outside wrold and leave us to protect our data.

Ken,

Yes, you are right about Data Safe and Sensitive Data Shield. However, you can retrieve the data safe file but do not have an option to use Data Safe in latest version.

We will take this as a feedback and request you to submit the product feedback form.

Open AVG Internet Security -> Menu -> About -> Submit Feedback -> you can submit your suggestion here. Our developers will check and consider this for future update.
