Cannot connect to server through AVG enhanced firewall

Hello,

We have four computers in our workplace, one of which is a server that the three other computers connect to. Since installing AVG Internet Security Unlimited on our main (server) computer, the other computers are unable to connect to it. Specifically, what happens is that when we try to open a program called "Alma TLS" (a type of ERP system for our business) on one of the non-server computers, an error occurs, the mesage of which roughly translates as:

"Fatal error. Cannot connect to messaging management. You probably haven't updated the server. Please do so, then try to restart the program."

The error presumably arises because in order for Alma TLS to open successfully, the program first needs to connect to a database located on our server computer. Unfortunately, this attempt to connect seems to be blocked by the AVG firewall. I have tried changing the firewall settings to allow communication on port 16000 (the port that Alma TLS uses for communication, according to customer service), but to no avail. Up until now, our only way around the problem has been to disable the firewall completely, which obviously isn't a desirable long-term solution. Any advice on how to resolve this issue would be very much appreciated.

Sincerely,
Jenny

Hello Jenny,
We will help you sort it out. I request you to change AVG Firewall network profile to private (open AVG Internet Security > menu > settings > components > firewall > customize > network profile > change all the network public to private), please go to Firewall customize settings again > scroll down > click on system rules > enable all the system rules if it's not configured, please click OK and check if you can access connect other computers to the main server computer with enabled AVG Internet Security.
Regards,
Alok.

Hi Alok,
Thank you for taking the time to reply, and I apologize for my somewhat late follow-up. I followed the steps in your description and I got as far as Menu > Settings > Components > Enhanced Firewall > Customize, however I can't seem to find the "Network Profile" setting under "Customize". (There is an option called "Network Connections", but from what I can tell there is no way to change the network profile from here.) I have enclosed a screen cap to help explain what I mean.User-added image

Thank you for sharing us the screenshot.

We could see that you have disabled the AVG firewall feature on the AVG Internet Security application. We suggest to enable the firewall and then try to follow the instructions provided by Alok and check with the issue.
