AVG 2015 won't reinstall (filter manager service error)

On my wife's Windows 8 Lenovo laptop, I have AVG 2015, the second licence alongside my own PC.

Today I discovered that the AVG update manager was downloading update files in an endless loop. Already 20GB of data this week, and it goes on forever. I stopped it and restarted but no luck.

I had no option but to uninstall AVG in order to reinstall it. It wouldn't uninstall so I had to download the AVG removal tool.

Now I can't reinstall AVG because "the filter manager service is not running or is not present."

I can't actually see any discussions on how to solve this issue. Anybody please? I simply can't reinstall AVG.

I'm sorry but this simply doesn't work.

I have used the Remover Tool. I have also downloaded and tried both the AVG ResetAccess tool and the AVG BEFfix tool, as recommended on the website technical section.

Neither of these things work. I still get the Filter manager service error.

I cannot attempt to install AVG in Safe Mode with Networking as the laptop does not have a wired connection,  only wireless, and it seems that Windows 8.1 will not operate the wireless connection in Safe Mode.

So, basically, I am completely unable to reinstall AVG 2015 and I'm *not* impressed.

Well, I had a rather lengthy session with remote technical support who controlled the laptop and did various things, but the session ended without my really being told what was going to happen next as there certainly wasn't a successful installation of AVG at the end of it all!
