Hello Florence,
We apologize for the inconvenience caused.
Please be informed that we launched AVG 2016 version on September 17th. Hence I do understand that you are trying to install the new version and we don't have option to get 2015 version or any other previous version. Before installing it, I request you to run the AVG 2016 remover tool in your pc.
To download AVG Remover tool http://www.avg.com/ww-en/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fdownload.avg.com%2Ffiledir%2Futil%2FAVG_Remover.exe&urlSec=UhT%2BBzZUdTGTfMN%2BMUDefLYjJIc5sr9PT4gwqqdOZLdqTfL1KgHh6k4Nsq3ZpPAN%2FWp9nmon7o%2BnrfxaAPzsIrRe45ERkTwfLR3rRYZbZ3lYMDjfPS9%2B00xDTIhHml1X
And accept the license agreement and then choose the AVG Antivirus in it and the remove it.
NOTE: Once the AVG Remover Tool has done with its process. Please go to the drive where you installed this tool and look for a folder named as "AVG Remover" and I request you to delete it manually.
Please feel free to contact us back for any further assistance. Thank you.

AVG Free re-installing on XP SP3 after running all the removal tools suggested in this thread and in a similar thread about the same thing.  Still getting 0xC007001D error message. Is there a magic answer yet?

This is not going to make anyone happy, but I found an AVG Free 2015 full offline version (not at AVG) and it installed just FINE.  I don't know if it is a CPU (SEE architicual/instuctional) problem or a RAM problem (528 MB installed), but the latest and greatest version of AVG Free will NOT install on my Windows XP Pro PC.
AvinashAvinash (Avast)
Hello Norton.
Pleased to see that you appear to be now sorted. Thanks for returning to the Community & posting. Would you please let me know from where did you download the offline installation file? Thank you.
Norton FernNorton Fern

The specific file I used is:  http://files-download.avg.com/inst/av/avg_free_x86_all_2015_ltst_222.exe

Have AVG sorted the problem for you ?
Kind Regards
David.

@David Collins: Unfortunately, no.

From the "For Whatever it's worth AVG Free Department":  My older XP PC's that have an SSE1 class CPUs are currently running AVG 2015.0.6173 and are receiving database updates and ARE NOT nagging me to update to AVG 2016. Run Program Update Schedule is ON.

My newer XP PC's that have an SSE2 class or better CPUs are currently running AVG 2016.0.7227 and are receiving database updates. Run Program Update Schedule is ON.

I too am having this problem.  How can I manage to get it solved.  I've attempted installing all the suggestions in this thread, but unfortunatuly, AVG has changed them all so they try to install the latest version of the software, which give me the 0xC007001D error shortly after downloading the installation components.  it sits for a bit, then says Sorry there was an error, and gives the code.  nothing useful in this error, it's a total waste of programming code.   so who has the 'REAL' solution, and how can I get it.  I don't see any reason to spend any money on AVG if the "FREE" product won't even install on my compter to test it out.  Of this is the kind of quality that I can expect from AVG, then I think I may just have to look for a much better antivirus program.  That's my two cents.  If there's someone one who cares, and is interested in replying I would much appreciate it.

Yes I had run the remover, deleted the remover folder, tried re-installing direct from the website, and it stops at the exact same spot. (Right after downloading installation components, 100%) then sits for a few seconds, then comes back with the error.  I'm just about to give up on AVG at this point.  I'm running windows XP Service Pack 3, and no, I don't have any other antivirus installed, in fact I've run removers for all of them just in case, including Windows LIve, Malwarebytes, AVG. so now I'm just more and more confused.

Hello Florence,
Thank you for your valuable efforts which you are trying to fix it. Since we tried basic troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue, unfortunately it will not get into the hands. In this case we need to diagnose your system information to get system logs to identify the root cause of the issue. We have sent a private message regarding this and try to send the logs once you have collected. Please feel free to get back to us for further assistance.
Thank you.

m r:  AVG sends me their suggestions they meant to send to you, call me Florence, and chastise me every time I offer the reason why you are getting the 0xC007001D error.  I believe the problem is if your CPU is not a SSE2 or better, it will not install.  Do search on 0xC007001D in the AVG Support at the top of the page, and you will see what I am talking about.

Now I will brace myself for AVG's berating again.

AVG confirm in the other (https://support.avg.com/answers?id=906b00000008nX2AAI) topic thread that AVG 2016 is not compatible with old computers with pre-SSE2 CPUs (because it employs Chromium Embedded Framework).  Intel chips pre 2001 are not compatible, and neither are AMD chips prior to 2003.  The issue affects both free and paid versions of AVG.  AVG is no longer offering AVG versions pre 2016, and they seem to be preventing their operation (with barely any notice) where already installed.

Unless AVG offer the 2015 version to affected customers we will be left with only two choices: get a new computer or change our antivirus provider.

Hello Face Palm,
We really apologize for any inconvenience caused, you can find the minimum system requirement for  AVG program here: http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=What-are-AVG-system-requirements-and-supported-opearting-systems . We do not have option to provide you  AVG 2015 program link however, we are about to release AVG 2017 upgraded version by January 10, 2017. Thank you.
Face PalmFace Palm
But presumably AVG 2017 will also not support pre-SSE2 CPUs?  It is reasonable for AVG to end support for very old hardware.  However, the way you have done so is not reasonable.  You inform users they need to upgrade within 48 hours to AVG 2016.  When they attempt to do so they receive an obscure 0xC007001D error code and no other information.  If they search the support forum they find advice to completely remove their old version and try again (even though this will definitely fail and they will be left with no AV protection, and only a basic Windows firewall).  Eventually, they find that you have a version - AVG 2015 - that works fine with the current hardware, but you refuse to make it available to them!

I am 1 year into a 2 year three computer paid licence.  One of the reasons for choosing AVG was to keep an old PC going so the users don't have to learn a new system - AVG works better on old systems than most other AV software.

I think you should keep AVG 2015 available to paying customers 2 more years as a courtesy.  You should tell them that support for this version will end in 2 years.  This will give them plenty of time to upgrade their hardware or change AV providers.  And in the meantime it will provide the antivirus and firewall protection they paid for!
