Difficulty installing AVG 2016 free

I have tried to install AVG 2016 free over AVG 2015 free.  Is it designed to do this?  The installation files download but the process crashes immediately without doing anything.

My hardware is very old.  Would it be helpful if I ran "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSInfo\msinfo32.exe" and sent the resulting Windows XP System Information file to you? This describes my hardware as well as other information about the system.

Is there a problem running some of your software on very old processors?

Thank you for the most rapid response Alan.  After the installation procedure  crashes, the error message box states "Error loading type library/DLL (0xC007001D)".

The system information file identifies the processor as "x86 Family 6 Model 10 Stepping 0 AuthenticAMD ~2158 Mhz" which is also known as "AMD Athlon XP 3000+".  There is 3GB of RAM.  The operating system is Windows XP Professional SP3.

This behaviour happens with both online (AVG_Protection_Free_698.exe) and offline (AVG_Antivirus_Free_x86_694.exe) installation files.

Thank you Kishore.  I'm sorry but I don't understand.  I uninstalled AVG 2015 free and attempted to install AVG 2016 free.  This failed and I successfully reinstalled AVG 2015 free.

I have no problem installing AVG 2015 free.  Changes must have been made to AVG 2016 or its installer software which have made it impossible to install it.  Something is obviously different in the installation software and no longer compatible with my system.  I have a copy of the offline installer for AVG free 2015.0.6140 which works perfectly.  The offline installer for AVG 2016 free just crashes immediately.  I am locked out of AVG 2016.

I provided such system information last August under your reference 'AVG Customer Care - Request #02135687    [ ref:_00Db0Jy90._500b0L7LYu:ref ]'

The issue was that installation file 'avg_free_stb_all_5751p1_177.exe' ran without any problems but the later installation file 'avg_free_stb_all_5961p1_177.exe' has a problem with an illegal instruction.

I have not yet heard what AVG's investigations revealed.
