AVG 2016 Free won't install on XP Pro 64-bit

I've been happily using AVG AntiVirus FREE version 2015.0.6173 on my PC running Windows XP Professional x64 Edition.  Recently AVG advised me that an update was available, which I tried to install.  It then showed a window headed "Incompatible operating system" with the text "Sorry, your operating system is not compatible with this AVG product..." and when I clicked on the link to see which AVG products are compatible with my OS it took me to the Business section of the AVG website.  The same error message is presented when I attempt to install a fresh download of AVG 2016.  Windows XP Pro 64-bit is listed as a compatible OS for AVG, and I've been able to use AVG on it right up to the 2015 version, so what's going on?

Hello Vince,
I know this could be disappointing, I would suggest you to reinstall your AVG program. To uninstall, use the remover tool ( http://aa-download.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_Remover.exe ). After reboot, delete AVG Remover from C: drive manually. Now install your AVG Antivirus Free by clicking on the following link: http://www.avg.com/us-en/download.prd-afh-free. Let us know if  you face any difficulties. Thank you.

Hi Ranjani, thanks for your prompt response.  I removed AVG as directed; as a check, no AVG processes were listed by Task Manager after reboot.  I attempted to install AVG using the suggested downloads (AVG_Antivirus_Free_692.exe, AVG_Antivirus_Free_x64_693.exe, and AVG_Antivirus_Free_x86_694.exe) but each failed with "Incompatible operating system" as before.  Is it possible that the installer is incorrectly determining my OS as Windows Server 2003 from which XP Pro x64 was derived, as has occurred with other software?  Whilst this issue is being resolved, can you please direct me to a download which will re-install AVG 2015, or must I now go to a rival for anti-virus software that will work on my OS?

Despite a phone call with Tech Support followed by a remote control session, I am disappointed to report that AVG 2016 is still not installed on my PC.  Further, it appears that AVG 2016 is not supported on XP Pro x64 despite what it says on the system requirements page.  If you wish to continue using AVG on your XP Pro x64 system then I would suggest sticking with AVG 2015 - do not be persuaded by Tech Support to remove it or, like me, you will not be able to re-install it (since it is no longer available from the website) and will be forced to look elsewhere for anti-virus software.  Bye bye AVG!

I have a solution for installing AVG on Windows XP x64 system.
You need to use version AVG 2015.
I don't how with normal installer (small file), but offline installer works fine.
I didn't have Internet connection on this PC, and installer was forcing to update files before installation.
I bypassed that by setting system date to 18 October 2014. Then installation went fine.
AVG 2015 offline installer (XP x64 etc.):

I don't why they forced users to such things.

Maybe because they given a license on AVG Internet Security 2015 as a promotion to 2018 for free. Legal key from promotion is on the net.
