Question About Scan Settings

Hello.

I am using AVG Antivirus Free Edition 2014.

1a) What is the difference between 'All File Types' and 'Selected File Types?'

b) For everyday scanning, should 'All File Types' be selected for all 4 sections under the 'Scan' heading?

2a) Are 'Scan Infectable Files Only' and 'Scan Media Files' the only two 'Selected File Types' or are they the only two that can be manually selected as part of the 'Selected File Types?'

b) Why would a user choose to only scan 'Infectable Files Only,' 'Media Files' or both of theminstead of scanning 'All File Types?'

Thanks-I could not find this information within the software's Help screen

Hi John.
From help section:
All file types
– scan all files regardless of file type or format. If you want to exclude some specific file types from scanning, you can type the extensions in the Define excluded extensions text field (separated by commas or semicolons).

Selected file types – scan only files of the specified formats. If you want to include some specific file types in scanning, you can type the extensions in the Define included extensions text field (separated by commas or semicolons). Apart from defining file types explicitly, you can also use these predefined options:

· Scan infectable files only – only scan files that can be possibly infected by a virus. This reduces the scanning time effectively, as it is not necessary to scan every single file.
· Scan media files – scan media files (video, audio etc.). If you leave this box unchecked, it will reduce the scanning time even more because these files are often quite large and not very likely to be infected by a virus.

Scan files without extensions – scan also files of unknown format.

I think that ones per week scan is enough in that scan you can scan all files.
Thanks
