AVG finds hidden rootkit

Hi

Just this morning I discovered AVG has a rootkit scan. I tried it out and it returned 1 high severity result, a "hidden application" that is "part of the operating system"

It cleans it up fine, however it seems to come back randomly. Sometimes it doesn't show up in the scan then sometimes it is back.

I have done rootkit scans with malwarebytes and TDSSKiller at the same time and neither picked up anything, while AVG did. I have also done virus/malware scans with malwarebytes, adaware, superantispyware, hitman pro, spybot S&D. None of thse programs pick up anything.

My PC appears to be functioning normally. No weird processes, CPU usage is fine, nothing is crashing, all appears to be normal.

Is it most likely just a false positive?

Same issue here -- first detection was 5/10, found again on 5/11 but not on 5/12.  Back on 5/13.  Just ran a manual rootkit scan and it came up clean.  Puzzled to say the least.

Hi Tyler,

Yes, it is most likely false detection.

Thanks
