Sound stopped working plus other errors after AVG Update

I really hope someone can help me.
I recently installed an AVG update and now my sound does not work.
Also, when I restart my computer, I get a message from Windows that says that the System Event Notification service cannot start.  I also see that some of the sound services are not starting either, and cannot.

I did some research on that message, and tried to run SFC /Scannow.  It gets to 21% and then stops and reports that it cannot continue.

I also saw in another forum post that other people had problem with Sound not working.  That post suggested that unlocking the HKEY entries in the Virus Vault would fix it, but my Virus Vault is empty.

I am using Windows 7.1 Home Premium and my system was working PERFECTLY before this.  Now I have all these problems.  I am hoping that someone can help me fix this because, although I really do love AVG, I have to say that this was caused by the recent update and I can't allow this to continue!  I suspect that my registry has been compromised, and although I use carbonite to back up, I doubt that the registry was backed up.

HELP!!!!

Check if the System Event Notification Service is running or not. To check for the services

1.      Click on Start

2.      In the start Search box type Services

3.      Right Click on - RUN AS ADMIN

Check if the below mentioned services has the mentioned status and start up type.
System Event Notification Service            Started                 Automatic

If not then set this service to automatic mode. Restart your PC.

In case this does not solve the problem then try to perform a system restore. Hope this helps you. Thank you.

I called support.  Had to speak to a supervisor because the first guy tried to tell me it wasn't AVG's fault.  The supervisor had me uninstall AVG, and magically everything is working again.  I don't have the guts to reinstall AVG right now, will probably install something else.  I really suggest you guys look at what your recent update did, because without question it messed up my sound and my services!

Hello Dan. I apologize for the inconvenience caused. This issue can be fixed by uninstalling and reinstalling the AVG program. I would request you to install the AVG program again. Please submit the feedback to AVG via link removed. Thank you.
