Google Chrome error

Cannot load Gmail or sign in to Google on Chrome due to AVG certificate for Gmail not from a trusted certificate authority. Several other websites also producing this error. Anyone know how to solve this?
Kenza CohenKenza Cohen
Hi There Ken,
Normally AVG does not interfere with SSL Certificates, I see this problem quite regularly though so may i ask you to check that the time and date is set correctly on your computer.

Normally this error is produced when a computers date and time is incorrect as SSL Certificates have an issue and expiry date and if your computer reports a different date to either one of the forementioned dates it will cause the certificate to be shown as invalid.

I Hope this helps and should my response not help to resolve your issue please feel free to reply and i will help you troubleshoot further.

Regards,

Kenza

Hi Kenza

Date and time are both correct. When I click on the padlock in front of https: It specifically states that the issuing authority ( AVG) is not a trusted certifier.

Hi Kenza

I have just temporarily disabled AVG and now every web page loads ok including Gmail.
This proves that AVG is causing the problem please advise.

Hi Kenza

Thanks for your suggestion I have repaired my instalation and the problem is still there until I disable On Line Shield. It appears to stil be a problem with AVG certification.

I have just heard back from Tech Support! Could i please ask you to try the following:

Open AVG and click "Options" -> "Advanced Settings" -> "Web Browsing Protection" -> "Online Shield" -> "Expert Settings" Uncheck "Scan encrypted (TLS and SSL) network traffic" option

Please let me know how you get on.

Hi Kenza

Just tried as suggested and gmail now loads ok so problem solved it appears they need to do further work on the TLS and SSL network traffic option.

Thanks for your assistance with this who do I bill for the 7 hours or so that I spent trying solve this frustrating error? Must be worth a free renewal of AVG Internet Security at least.

Hi Ken!

I am glad i managed to help you in the end.

In regards to the 7 Hours i honestly wouldn't know as i am only a volunteer and Partner for AVG so i have no power's to sanction anything i'm afraid but what i can do is make sure that if ever you need help in the future that i am here to guide you again (and hopefully quicker next time).

I appreciate how frustrating the issue has been for you and i have also reported the issue so that the Dev Team can look into the issue so that no-one else is affected by the same issue.

If i could ask you to mark my solution as the best answer it would show that the problem is now solved and help any other users who have this problem see the fix without having to go around in circles to resolve their issue.

Have a good Day/Evening Ken and until we meet again take care of yourself.

Regards,

Kenza

Had exactly this same issue last night. Loaded AVG 2015 Pro. Was fine on my old Vista laptop but on Windows 7 desktop I couldnt connect to any websites and was getting the Certificate error. Followed the fix on here
Open AVG and click "Options" -> "Advanced Settings" -> "Web Browsing Protection" -> "Online Shield" -> "Expert Settings" Uncheck "Scan encrypted (TLS and SSL) network traffic" option

having already spent a long time testing and had already come to the conclusion finally that it was the Online Shield section that was causing the issue.
This fix works, but as the option for "Scan encrypted (TLS and SSL) network traffic" is ticked by default then I presume its something that should be scanned and checked for protection purposes so the suggestion for simply turning it off seems a little flawed.

as the original call was back in Feb I'm surprised this is still an issue.  Is it going to be resolved so that the option can be ticked again?

Would AVG like to respond.
thanks
Ian

I have the same problem.  I cannot access any website due to the "certificate error" report.  Has made mt laptop unuseable and have not been able to find a solution.  I uninstalled AVG protection and the certificate error still occurred because it did not fully uninstall.   What AVG program do I open to find the "options" choice to begin this process - My AVG zen does not have this and the AVG protection will not run because it will not connect to the website.  Tried to reinstall and receved error message, tried running AVG access reset tool and receive error on that also.
