avgui vs avguix

Task Manager says I have both avgui.exe and avguix.exe running.  How come?  Is this necessary?  I hadn't noticed more than one main avg file before.  Running Windows 7, just did the latest update that put "AVG Zen" on my machine.  Also, why are both *32 when I have a 64-bit operating system?

Thank you in advance.

Hello Tara. I certainly understand your concern. Since you have installed the AVG Zen program there is two AVGUI.exe seen on the task manager. For your information, AVG Zen is just an interface on which the AVG Protection and performance gets installed. One of the exe file is for the AVG Zen interface and another is for the AVG Internet Security which gets installed on the protection component which keeps running in the background to keep your PC protected. Thank you.

About your 32/64-bit question, many programs on your system are 32-bit, everything that's inside the Program Files (x86) folder. Main benefit of a native 64-bit application is that it can handle better and faster larger files (greater than a few GB's), so we are talking mostly about very demanding audio/video/photo applications, even large Office files. Other 32-bit applications work just fine under a 64-bit OS, and usually require less RAM to work and occupy a bit less hard disk space. Having said that, it would be nice if AVG switched to native 64-bit support, I'm sure it would benefit from a slight performance increase. More info here (http://www.howtogeek.com/194119/why-are-most-programs-still-32-bit-on-a-64-bit-version-of-windows/).
