I'm running Windows Vista (with the latest updates) and AVG Free and Comodo Free Firewall.
Recently Comodo Free Firewall updated to version 8.4.0.5165. Since that update I get an error in the AVG panel. It has happened on the two computers of mine that I run AVG Free and Comodo Free Firewall so it is consistent.
The error I get is:
AVG panel - Email: Email Protection component is not active. - Email Not Protected Email panel - Not Fully Functional - Email Scanner is not fully functional
I tried to resolve this issue but I can't get it to work.
I have seen this exact problem reported here on AVG. See the link https://support.avg.com/answers?id=906b0000000DQ6pAAG for another report that is very similar.
I doubt the problem can be fixed without AVG's intervention to fix it.
I don't know if anyone has a fix for this problem but I thought I would post this so that others facing the same problem can rest assured it is not only them experiencing the problem.
Hello Frank, We are sorry for the inconvenience caused. Could you let us know whether your AVG is working fine when you disable the Comodo firewall or not?
Thank you for the confirmation, Frank. In this case, we can understand that there is a conflict with the AVG and Comodo program, so we request you to have any one of the program installed. We also request you to completely reinstall AVG program once and check whether the issue persists. 1) To download AVG remover tool, please click on this link: http://aa-download.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_Remover.exe 2) Run the downloaded file and follow the onscreen instructions. 3) Restart your PC when the restart option is displayed on the remover tool screen. NOTE: Once you have logged into your PC after the restart, please go to C: drive and delete the "AVG REMOVER" folder manually.
Thank you for performing the reinstallation. Well, the problem is having the two antivirus program on the same PC. It will always create conflicts in either ways, so to avoid this issue we recommend you to have only one antivirus program installed.
Frank, We apologize for the delay in responding to you, we realize that the Comodo firewall is blocking (conflict) AVG from installing its email components. In this case, we suggest you to contact the Comodo support for further assistance or you can uninstall it and reinstall your AVG to avoid conflicts. Thank you!
I prefer to use Comodo as Windows Firewall does not provide an Outgoing firewall, only Incoming.
I used to use ZoneAlarm Free Firewall (which has never given me any problems whatsoever) however I use Shareaza which gives a LowId with eDonkey connections which is a restriction with the free version of ZoneAlarm.
Hence I moved to Comodo which ticked all the boxes however I find it very unstable. I am living in the hope that the next major release of Comodo fixes these problems. The latest of the problems being the one I have reported here.
Hello Frank, Thank you for understanding. Since you have mentioned that commando firewall is blocking the AVG email components, we personally suggest you to contact Commando technical support to resolve at the issue earliest. Thank you.

I tried:
- Disabling Firewall
- Disabling Virusscope
- Exiting Firewall
But the problem The Email Scanner is not fully functional still remains.
I uninstalled Comodo Free Firewall and it fixed the problem.
I then reinstalled Comodo Free Firewall and once again the problem The Email Scanner is not fully functional happened again.
In this case, we can understand that there is a conflict with the AVG and Comodo program, so we request you to have any one of the program installed.
We also request you to completely reinstall AVG program once and check whether the issue persists.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling AVG Free and the problem remains.
It will need either AVG or Comodo (or both) to fix their program to resolve the problem.

Frank
