How to prevent AVG scanning newly compiled exe files
I just upgraded AVG free to version 1.171.3.211. I do programming almost daily and sometimes I recompile the code tens or hundreds of times per day. With the latest version of AVG, every time I make minor changes in the code and recompile the program, the AVG starts scanning the executable and it informs me it will take up to 15 seconds to finish it. This is not acceptable for me, as it would slow down the development to a crawl. All my programs are located in a particular folder (C:\MyCode). Is there a way to tell AVG not to be concerned with any of the code from that folder (unless I decide to scan the entire folder)? What other options do I have, apart for disabling the antivirus?
I tried to understand why I could not initially find the Settings menu (I was expecting AVG would have some sort of settings or configurable options). I got confused about the main menu of AVG Zen, which only shows Device Settings. It turns out I had to press on the Antivirus Free icon and only then a new window appears with its own menu. Coincidentally, the second window appears exactly on top of the first window and I have not noticed that is not the same window, but a different one. To make it more intuitive, under the menu of the main window, I would include "Antivirus Free Settings", "PC Tuneup Settings", etc.
Gunaseelan Gurusamy, I do not want to exclude the whole directory because I can be in danger. I just want to exclude the new executable that the compiler performs. Is this possible ?

Hi Balasubramanian I know this option, but dosn't meet my need. I'm a programmer (Delphi) and i recompile many times at every day some applications in different directories (every application has its own directory with its files). To avoid scanning I have to exclude all thes directories that is not secure. The tool that generates every new executable is just one. The Delphi compiler who invokes the newly created executable. Is there a way to tell to AVG not check the compiler and all its spawned applications ? thanks
I've got the same problem when I run executables compiled by Microsoft Visual Studio. It occurs even in Debbuging Mode, where, theoretically, my exe is called by Visual Studio itself, which is a trusted software.
My question therefore is: Do you think AVG will stop scanning my executable if I digitally sign it before running it (using probably a self-signed digital certificate)? Please don't answer "it worth your try". I am asking this exactly to do not waste my time creating a digital signing infrastructure for nothing.
Thank you!
PS: My development team has several developers and we build 3 programs in a lot of different flavors (for different platforms, configurations and custumer requisites), each one having its own path and file name. So, the suggestted solution is clearly impractical. We are using AVG for enterprises by the way.
@ Ricardo Marques Ricardo, Also general topic info.. "Business products" support.. For assistance have a look @ this AVG webpage (https://support.avg.com/business_contact_form?l=en_US). I am a professor in software development and during the course of my day I compile and run multiple applications (mines and the ones submitted by my students) in differents directories over multiple workstations. Since AVG intervenes every time I generate new executables, and continually adding these directories to AVG's exclusion list is VERY combersome, I end up disabling AVG most a the day. This obviously defeats the use an antivirus!
It would greatly accelerate the process if I had access to an AVG popup menu item when I right-click on a folder in Windows (such as the one AVG currently provides to scan for threads) to add the selected folder and its subfolders to AVG's exclusion list.
Such "one-click" solution would surely benefit all who contributed to this support thread.
May I make a suggestion to ease the task of excluding directories from scanning executables in a development environment? It would be great if we had access to an appropriate AVG item in the popup menu associated with a right click on a folder in Windows (such as the one already available for scanning its content for threads). The programmer could then easily add on the fly any development directory to AVG's exclusion list. As I professor in programming I create such directories multiple times during the day. Such "one click" solution would greatly ease the process. Right now the only quick solution I found is to temporarily disable AVG while I compile and run my apps. This obviously defeat contradicts the reasons to use an antivirus sincie mine is disabled most of the day!

Please investigate Marco Lavoie's suggestion. This issue has been raised 5 years ago. Excluding one directory from scanning is a reasonable first step solution but as you will know software development and management needs to be flexible as well as protected from threats. So including a popup menu to exclude a folder would be very helpful. Also it should be possible to recognise applications running under a recognised debugger or development environment and not scanning these apps. Thanks

I was able to add the folder to the exception list.

There is no need for a screenshot, since I already solved the problem (based on the answer from Gunaseelan). My later comment was just a suggestion.
Thanks,
Nick
I do not want to exclude the whole directory because I can be in danger.
I just want to exclude the new executable that the compiler performs.
Is this possible ?

You can exclude a file or folder from AVG's exceptions as mentioned in the following articles: http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-exclude-file-folder-or-website-from-AVG-scanning and http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-make-exclusions-from-all-scans-and-shields .

We will check with it internally and get back to you soon. Your patience is much appreciated.
Unfortunately, we do not have such an option, the only possibility is you have to make exceptions for directories.

We will certainly check this for you.
Please let us know the name of the AVG program that you are running on your end.
Do you have the business version or the consumer version of the program?
If you have the business version installed, please use this link (http://www.avg.com/us-en/customer-support-business) to get in touch with our business support team.
