Disappearance of AVG Free

Today I discovered AVG had disappeared from toolbar and control panel. I downloaded it again and was told it had downloaded and installed. But after restarting I discovered it was still not there. Windows Defender seems to think AVG is there and is keeping me secure from viruses. Can anyone advise me?

Clare, Which version of Windows OS are you using?. From Win 8 onwards Windows Defender was re-classified into an AntiVirus prog which will conflict with AVG when it's installed therefore Defender should be disabled.

Hi Clare,

We are sorry to hear that, could you please confirm if you have tried installing AVG Anti Virus FREE again on your computer? If not, please try installing it from http://files-download.avg.com/inst/mp/Antivirus_Free_1817.exe and check the issue once.

Thank you!

Dear Akash

Thanks for that.

I just installed it again, from your link, but it's still not appearing among my programmes or on my toolbar. Do you think it could actually still be there, hidden, and that it might reveal itself if I removed Windows Defender? But I don't want to be left with no defence at all!

Alan, it's windows 10. I've had it for a while, but never had AVG disappear like this before. I'll try installing AVG yet again as a first step. I'm a bit scared of removing windows defender and being left with no defence whatsoever.

Yes I did install it again, but it was still invisible. I'll try yet again, from your link this time.

Yes, it told me it had installed, and gave me the 'restart' button to click. No error message at any stage.
