Stop advertising on a licensed version 17

Hello - I have a license for Internet Security that I bought a while ago.  I've upgraded to v17.4.3014 and now all sorts of ads are popping up.  I thought with a purchased license these ads would be suppressed?  There was an option to switch off in-app advertising from AVG and 3rd parties, but I can't seem to find an equivalent option.  How can I turn off these ads?  They are very intrusive and take priority over anything I'm doing.  Thanks.

Elizabet,
Sorry for the inconvenience caused to you with AVG campaign pop ups. Many of our users find these offers useful. We handpick them from our own products or those of partners we feel can add to your security or digital experience.
Also the frequency of pop ups can be controlled directly from the app or can be even turned off. Follow the steps in this article http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-Change-the-Frequency-of-Pop-Up-Notifications for details how to change it.
If you have suggestions on how these offers might be more relevant to you or less intrusive, please let us know. We are always working on improving your experience with AVG.

That link does not match my version.  I have no option for Advanced Settings or Set maximum Frequency on in-app offers from AVG and trusted 3rd Parties.  V17?  I am using the newer AVG Internet Security.  It says on the top of that link that the instructions do not apply to my version.

Hello Elizabeth,

Thank you for informing that you are using the 2017 version.
The settings and appearance of 2017 version will be completely different from the 2016 version.
We request you to enable the silent mode option inorder to fix this issue.
1) Please open the AVG User Interface.
2) Click on the AVG Internet Security  to open the dashboard of the program.
3) Click Menu on the Internet Security interface and select Settings from it.
4) In the General tab window, to the right you can find a check box option named as "Silent Mode"
5) Please tick the check box and click on Ok at the bottom.

Thank you.  I take it that setting this will not supress any warnings such as problems downloading updates or viruses detected?
Elizabeth KaneElizabeth Kane
I now get warnings that I won't get any security popups or alerts.  I want to have alerts if a virus is detected, but I don't want to be innudated with ads every 2 hrs.  How can I turn off the ads but still get virus security alerts?
AvinashAvinash (Avast)
Elizabeth,
The option to set the frequency of campaign pop ups is not yet available in the latest version of AVG. We have already submitted the feedback to our developers and the changes in the campaign pop ups are being made in the future updates. So we request you to keep your AVG always up to date.
Elizabeth KaneElizabeth Kane
Will it come soon?  It is highly irritating, and I do not wish to put Silent mode on if it won't alert me to real issues with the product I need to be aware of.  I bought a license so that I wouldn't be irritated by ads, but there are actually more with the 2017 version.  When will this change be re-impemented.  I am quite suprised it was removed!
Balasubramanian SBalasubramanian S (Avast)
Hello Elizabeth,

Yes, you can expect this option to occur as soon as possible.
However, we request you to submit the feedback from your end using this link: http://www.avg.com/product-feedback .
More the feedback we get, the process can be done faster.
Thank you.

I just updated my 3 user version to Internet Security and as IT support I have several clients that I've recommended AVG in the past - they all complain that they're inundated by ad garbage nonstop.
In this new version there are a lot of things that can't be turned off,
for starters: the software has a link "Fix Computer Performance" coded in at the bottom, that takes you to a performance scan that then tries to upsell you. Then another main screen under "Basic Protection" tries to slam sell several other AVG products by making them look like they're part of the software but somehow not installed:
PC Tuneup
Secure VPN
Password Protection

While I understand that a company has to make a living, forcing all this on a paying customer seems like predatory sales tactics and complicated the software, while diminishing its usability and value.
In the past I could recommend AVG with both thumbs up but as of late, but unless these ads and popups are fixed, the competition, mainly ESET, Kaspersky and Panda are looking like a better option.

Elizabeth,
We are sorry that you are encountering AVG pop ups in your desktop. Please provide us the screenshot of the pop up so that we can check and escalate accordingly. To create a screenshot, please use this article http://avgread.me/1aZxsAV .
Thank you.

Hello J D,
We are sorry that you are encountering AVG campaign pop ups in your PC. We would like to inform you that AVG User interface contains options to open another AVG Program. So AVG Internet Security window has option to open AVG PC tune up by clicking on 'Fix Computer Performance' button. This will directly open AVG PC tune up, if you have already purchased it. Otherwise, it will prompt to install the trial version. Once the trial has expired, it will prompt to purchase it. This is normal behavior of every trial program. However, we will take your feedback and escalate it to our developers. They will work on it in upcoming updates.
Thank you.

Hello Abirami - I have taken Balasubramanian advice and have submitted a product-feedback report.  I can't see what you would do with a screenshot, and I'm not really willing to sit here waiting for a pop-up to appear to capture it.  I'm sure you know what I am referring to - all the pop-up toast messages and dialogue windows prompting me to buy more products.  I purchased a licensed version so that I would not be bothered by this, and I'm now bothered even more that I've upgraded.  I would like to know when an option will be in place to suppress these advertisements - as one was available on the older version.  Now that I've bought the product I would expect no ads at all.
Elizabeth KaneElizabeth Kane
ESET, Kaspersky and Panda - Thanks J D, I will look into these as well if the problem isn't solved soon.

Hello Elizabeth,
We apologize if an AVG product did not meet your expectations. Our main goal is to keep our customers happy.
AVG carefully monitors the quality of our products and the service we provide, therefore all feedback from our customers is important to us.
We have forwarded your query to our developers team, they will analyze and fix it in the next update.
Elizabeth KaneElizabeth Kane
That is good news.  So the next software update will be fixed?  Can I ask how it is being fixed?  What is changing and when is the next update likely to occur?
Alok KumarAlok Kumar (Avast)
Hello Elizabeth,
The pop ups about, problems downloading updates or viruses detected are a known issue and we are working in a fix. We will release a new AVG update soon. We will contact you once the issue is resolved or in need of more information.
Best regards,
Alok.

Thanks Rick, that is interesting.  I will give that a try - so duration = 0 on info pop-ups.  I would assume the pop-ups I'm interested in (like a virus found or software didn't download) would still apear.  Good stuff!  But I wonder if this fixes it, what kind of fix is coming?   Support is being pretty vague on this point - if it's getting fixed, how and when?  Next release was said, and coming soon was said (which may not be the next release).
Elizabeth KaneElizabeth Kane
Sorry Rick, it's maybe supressing something by setting the info pop-up to 0, but I'm still getting really irritating ads poping up in front of what I'm doing. Have to rely on an update to the software.  What a decision to make, advertising pop-ups on a licensed product.  That will drive away customers.

Elizabeth, We understand the necessity of this feature. Unfortunately, there is no due date for this update. I would also like to check if you have installed any other AVG trial product. This can also trigger the popups. And please share the screenshot http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-create-a-screenshot of the popup in case you receive by anytime.

Thank you.

Elizabeth, For your info, just in case that you are unaware, you can post the screenshot here in your topic. Click on 'Answer' & then click on the 'Image' [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.

I will admit. Never seen that before on a paid product either. Not sure why AVG does that instead of sending emails like everyone else. Mus be buggy software i guess. I have antivirus version 16 and dont have those popups. Dont need or want zen either.
Elizabeth KaneElizabeth Kane
Seems support don't really know what's going on.  First told a fix is in the next update, then told don't know when it will be fixed.  Just re-implement the option to suppress advertising, that is all that is needed.
Elizabeth KaneElizabeth Kane
16 didn't have this problem, I loved 16.  It's 17 and it's loaded with ads even with a license.

Hello Elizabeth,
We apologize for the inconvenience. We suggest you to uninstall the AVG program installed in your computer using the AVG Clear tool https://share.avg.com/steam/PSP/AVG2017/AVG_Clear.exe. And install the latest version of AVG Internet Security you have purchased from this link http://files-download.avg.com/inst/mp/AVG_Internet_Security_1930.exe. Once you complete the installation, please check if you still receive the AVG pop-ups after the installation of this version of AVG. If you still have any difficulty, please let us know and we will assist you further.
Thank you

Well the countdown to drop AVG is on.
I paid to get rid of popups, and it is just worst than the free version.
I will NOT continue with AVG in the future
This software will be marked, associated and treated as SPAM.

Ad immediately after install of new version
Followed directions and ran the clear utility and then the update to 17.4.3014 and this pops up after install.  So no, uninstall and re-install does NOT clear the problems with annoying pop up ads.  I am a licensed user, and I have to battle ads that interrupt any of my work on my PC.  Will this be fixed soon, and when and how?
Abirami ShanmugamAbirami Shanmugam (Avast)
Hello Elizabeth,
We apologize for the delay in responding to you. We have checked your account and it seems that you have purchased AVG Internet Security (1 computer) good till 10/26/2017. And it seems that you have installed AVG Internet Security unlimited trial version instead of AVG Internet Security, so please follow below steps to remove AVG 2017 and install AVG Internet Security 2016:
1. Use the link https://share.avg.com/steam/PSP/AVG2017/AVG_Clear.exe to run the AVG Clear tool.
2. Open the AVG Clear tool, click Yes in the User Account control dialog.
3. Click No in the Windows safe mode dialog.
4. Select the installed version of AVG and also check the box 'Uninstall AVG Zen'. Then click Uninstall, and Restart computer.
Use the link to install AVG Internet Security: http://avgread.me/1DXPL5z .
Thank you.

You are suggesting I go back a version?  That's strange.

I just had a lenghty chat with AVG support, and it seems V17 is just loaded with ads and you have no choice in the matter.  Turning the info pop-up to 0 seems to be the standard solution, but I still get ads.  I do not have any trial products installed after the last clean and install.  With every scan I get a PC tuneup scan and a nag to try and purchase.  Not what I expected with my purchase.  Sadly the chat was just a sales pitch to purchase more products, so I think the solution is look into other products.  I've been with AVG Free for years, and this year I decided to spring for what I thought was a good solid product, but with this upgrade I'm thinking I made a bad mistake.

So my feedback to AVG is - no, advertisement does not "enrich" the user experience online.  It mearly annoys people and turns paying customers away.
