AVG ZEN Removal

For years I have been very happy with the AVG Antivirus Free.  But recently, without my knowledge, somehow AVG ZEN was installed on my system - and I HATE IT!   I have gone to the Win 7 Control Panel and used Add/Remove in an attempt to remove all AVG so that I can then reinstall AVG 2015. It will not allow me to remove AVG Protection.  I get the error code:  0xe0010002

I have run the AVG_Remover tool with no success.  How can I remove all AVG and start over again with a version of AVG prior to the monster ZEN?

I don't know how ZEN was installed on my system.  My wife has a Win 7 systems and it still has the good AVG Antivirus running on it.  Why me?   I have an HP EliteBook 8440p laptop running Windows7 Professional.   Thank you for your help.  Bill Gray

Hello Bill,
I'm sorry but we do not have option to install AVG Free Antivirus 2015 version (once you install AVG 2017 version on your computer). However, I have sent you an email instruction to remove AVG 2017 version from your computer. Also, I have attach a link to reinstall AVG Free Antivirus 2017 version (if you install AVG Free Antivirus 2017 version then AVG Zen will get installed automatically). There is no problem with AVG Zen (it is just a network, AVG Network that allows you to remotely view the status of AVG apps installed on any of your connected computers and Android™ phones and tablets. You can also add more devices to your AVG Network, install AVG apps on your other computers, phones and tablets, and even invite your family members to join your network).
Best regards,
Alok.

Hi Alok,  You tell me, "There is no problem with AVG Zen (it is just a network, AVG Network that allows you to remotely view the status of AVG apps installed on any of your connected computers and Android™ phones and tablets."

The problem is that I do not have a "network" - I only want AVG to work on my computer, no iPads, no iPhones, nothing else - just my computer - as before.  The new ZEN Management GUI has removed a number of features that I found very helpful - and, in their place, 2/3 of the GUI is taken up with pushing folks to buy AVG Internet protection.

How did ZEN get installed on my computer anyway?  I did not click to accept it nor to download it.  Like the flu - it just appeard one day.  But the funny thing is - that my wife also has a Win 7 system and her AVG was not affected. She still has the good AVG while I may have to shop for another antivirus because I HATE the ZEN GUI.  Thank you for your help, Bill Gray

Bill, you might have received a pop up to upgrade/update AVG 2015 to their latest version (you may have clicked on the update button which is why AVG Free Antivirus 2017 version has been installed on your computer). Also we are sorry that we do not have option to install AVG Free antivirus without  AVG Zen GUI. However, you can manage the AVG promotional pop ups from AVG Free Antivirus settings (Open AVG Free Antivirus > menu > settings > general > pop ups).
Best regards,
Alok.

Hi Alok,

Thank you for your response.  However I am quite positive that I did not click an AVG pop-up to install anything.  I have always been very, very conscious of that, also I have warned my wife to NEVER click on a pop-up unless she checks with me first.  And, her WIN 7 system is still fine, still has the AVG 2015 installed.

So, however I was chosen to be destroyed by ZEN - it was not via a pop-up purposely clicked or inadvertently clicked.

This upgrade was forced on my overnight.  Before going to bed my system was fine, I had run AVG and all was well.   When I came to my computer in the morning - there was ZEN - staring me in the face like a monster!  And I cannot express how much I HATE ZEN!

If I can remove remove all of AVG and then use an old 2015 AVG Installer (saved in my download folder) - will that work and restore me to my happy AVG days?

However, that still leaves me with the problem of how to uninstall the AVG ZEN mess.  I have tried all the known ways to do the uninstall - but ZEN will not uninstall.  I have used the WIN 7 Program Add/Remove feature, no luck.  I have even downloaded your AVG_Remover.exe and run that.   I have even gone into Windows Explorer and tried to delete the AVE folder, no luck.   ZEN is still in my system.

So, first, how do I do a complete AVG ZEN Uninstall?

Thank you again for your help,  Bill

Bill,
We do understand your concern. Please be informed that the updates for AVG 2015 has been stopped so 2015 installer link which you have in your PC has less possibility for working.
The current version of AVG Free Antivirus will have Zen interface and it's concept in it.
It is not possible to install AVG Free Antivirus without Zen.

Thank you.

HI Abirami,

Thank you for your response.  At this point I just want to remove AVG.  However, I have tried both "Win 7 Control Panel and used Add/Remove" and  "AVG_Remover.exe"    Neither will remove AVG ZEN from my system. And, I have tried to go in and delete the AVG folder from Windows Explorer.  It will not let me.   Please tell me how to remove AVG..

Thank you, Bill

Bill,
Did you run both AVG Clear and AVG Remover respectively as suggested by Alok earlier? Also, please let us know where do you see AVG Zen icon still present on your PC. Do you see it in control panel or the desktop AVG icon?
