Unwanted Google Chrome

Anybody else get an unwanted installation of Google Chrome without giving permission? AVG minimised my gaming session, installed a garbage Google browser and made it the default browser. What a scam. I wonder what other nasty 'surprises' AVG have included in this update? It's hard to trust these clowns any more.

Hello Matt,

We are sorry for the inconvenience caused.
During the installation of AVG Protection program the main screen of the installation will have the check box that says install Google Chrome browser and make it as a default browser.
The check box will be ticked by default. This is the reason for the installation of Google Chrome on your PC.
Please uninstall the Google Chrome browser and let us know if you have any issues.

No, you have no idea what you are talking about. AVG updates the software behind the user's back and with no warning whatsoever. No screen, no chance to opt out. This is clearly by design because you are in bed with Google. Good thing I block their adservers at OS level so I don't get those annoying and intrusive unsolicted spam ads through AVG which so many users are complaining about since you took the liberty of transforming AVG into malicious adware and installing it on people's systems without their knowledge or permission. Unethical business practices like this guarantee that you will lose sales as customers realise that you are on the take big-time. By installing the Google product you make users vulnerable to Google's data mining and help them to intrude on people's web browsing and monitor their private action on the Internet. Aligning with Google makes your company look dishonest. Nobody trusts Google any more. Soon nobody will trust AVG, either.

Hello Matt,
I'm sorry that you ware unaware about this. If you don't have google chrome installed on your computer, and you're installing AVG Free Antivirus then AVG will recommend you to install google chrome (which is automatically marked while installing AVG Free), you would have uncheck the box to not install Google chrome with AVG Free Antivirus. However, you can uninstall Google chrome (control panel > program and features). Google Chrome is an opt-out option during the migration. So dialog should be displayed. (1/2)

I request you to uninstall Google chrome from your computer, and run the AVG Free Antivirus (http://files-download.avg.com/inst/mp/Antivirus_Free_1817.exe) set up files again. Once the first page of the AVG Free Antivirus (where you click continue to install) appear, you find two box (to install google chrome) in the left bottom side of the window. You can uncheck that boxes to avoid installing Google chrome. Feel free to contact us again if you need any further assistance.
Best regards,
Alok.(2/2)

Let me complete your training so that you can answer this question with authority in future, instead of coming off looking like a complete idiot. If you had AVG installed on your system when this update was released, your verison got replaced without your knowlege and without any interraction at all. The new version which installed itself (replacing the old version) installed Google Chrome by default. The customer never sees this process and has no control over it.

So here's what you do not understand:

AVG updates itself and installs by default Google Crome. This happens to people who already have AVG installed. They never get a chance to opt out of the Chrome installation because the upgrade process takes place completetely out of their control. Only people installing the software for the FIRST TIME have the opportunity to opt out of the greedy security risk which you are peddling on behalf of Google. Existing users don't see any of this happen.

As long as you understand the difference between a first time user installing AVG for the first time, and an existing user booting up their PC to discover AVG has upgraded to a new version, the above concept shouldn't be difficult to understand. If you are still struggling with this simple concept, then perhaps help desk work is not for you?

Got it now?

Hello Nunya,

I completely understand the situation and concern. Please be informed that we are performing a major update from 2016 to 2017.
The reason is we are planning to make 2017 version as a standard one and from customers feedback we are making necessary changes to make it user friendly.
The update to 2017 version will happen automatically but it will not install the Google Chrome browser during the update.
A prompt will appear for it to install. I am sorry to know that it didn't happen in your case. I have passed this feedback to concern team and make sure that this won't happen in mere future.

If you have any issues in uninstalling Google Chrome browser, please try using removal tool from this link: https://www.google.com/chrome/cleanup-tool/
Thank you.

Hi,
Even though it sounds lika Chrome issue, its better to confirm. I suggest you to check with some other browser like firefox etc, whether you getting the same message or not.

This has just happened to me too. I normally have AVG to ask before it updates itself, but it has somehow got set to update automatically, In updating to 17.6.3029 and has installed Chrome in the background. Because it is updating automatically, there is no chance to say you don't want Chrome.
