Update Failed

After a requested update, AVG reports "Update Failed" and "General Error"

This is reproducible; will occur after a manual request for update.   See below, as I am not sure if it ending in an error when the daily updates occur; I suspect yes.

Version Info:
   Version 2015.0.6201
   Database 4604/12425 [wed june, 15, 2015
   Link Scanner 2920
   Toolbar 4.3.1.831
The download begins, and appears to complete [starting with something that is 1.6MB, and moving through a list, it appears.   Then installation begins, and proceeds to about the 50percent mark, sits for a bit, advances to 55 and eventually to 70 in 5-10 seconds and then sits for another bit at the 70% mark.  After a while, it reports an Update Failed.

This has gone for a while, though I notice that there are post update memory scans which report in the update log on a daily basis, though no "update complete" or something similar.   Also, I notice that the database is updated.   I would infer that the update that fails is the engine,

Sometimes, on the update failure, AVG itself closes [that is, the small status icon closes]

This is the free version.
I followed sthe update link, D>L the 64 bit windows version and ran the update.
The zen product ran, and the install.
That install failed, with an error message pointing to a directions indicating that there was an install in progress.   There was not; of any kind.
So
I re-ran the install.   That 2nd install failed, this time with the error code directing me to the form to fill out [the first error listed].   I went to that form to contact support.
Filled it out.   As requested.   Then hit enter and the chat box came up.   The tech agent, then declared that I could not use that chat system, though forced there by the URLs and software for the specific error, and gave me a URL to click   Sadlly, that would be useless, as it was the URL for the fill in form.   Again.    The other box, said fill out a request here, in the community.
So
Here I am, again.
What s up, tech support.   What's wrong.

Hello,
We are sorry to know that the issue persists. To resolve this issue, we suggest you to remove AVG traces using remover tool( http://aa-download.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_Remover.exe ). Please restart to complete the uninstalling process. After running AVG Remover, you may need to manually uninstall any remaining AVG applications and also 'search' for a folder "AVG Remover"(usually in 'C' drive) and please delete it manually. And then install AVG Antivirus Free by clicking on http://files-download.avg.com/inst/mp/AVG_Antivirus_Free_692.exe .Thank you.
