AVG Free not loading on Startup (Windows 10)

Hi,

AVG AntiVirus FREE works without a problem, it just doesn't load when first starting the computer.

There is an item in enabled for Startup:

Hello Steve,
The AVG program sometimes take time to start depending on the background application, please wait for sometime after the computer is booted up and see if the AVG service starts automatically.
Thank you.

Hi Aravindh,

I have already used the removal tool to remove all traces of AVG, and I then installed a freshly downloaded version of AVG Free.

The problem remains after completing that process.

Steve

Hello Steve,
We are sorry for the delay in responding. Our senior technicians have analyzed the diagnostic information and have confirmed that everything is working fine. To identify this issue, we suggest you to clear the icon cache (e.g. http://www.windows10update.com/2015/05/windows-10-tutorials-80-how-to-rebuild-icon-cache/ ) and also run checkdisk and sfc scannow .Thanks.
Steve DoigSteve Doig
Hi Raj,

I rebuilt the icon cache using the steps provided, but the issue remained.

I ran chkdsk, and no problems were found.

I ran sfc /scannow, and I received the error:

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some
of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For
example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not
supported in offline servicing scenarios.

Hello Steve,
We suggest you to remove values "IconStreams" and "PastIconsStream" located in the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify" registry key and restart computer. If this does not help we suggest you to  try different user profile and check whether the icon is shown there or not. Thank you.
Steve DoigSteve Doig
Hi Raj,

I've deleted the registry key, restarted, and the issue remains.

I've logged in as another user and the issue remains.

If I right-click on any item and choose scan with AVG, nothing happens, no screen pops up.

Regards,
Steve

I have th paid version and same problem. Would be nice if the solution was posted so that we all do not have to individually go through the tech support. The idea of remove and reinstall seems to be the common advice, that seems to get nowhere. Problem is elsewhere. Has this been figured out yet?
AvinashAvinash (Avast)

Has this issue not been resolved yet? I'm having the same exact problem with mine. I download AVG Free fine, it installs, I restart the computer and it's nowhere to be found. It's not anywhere in the computer. Not in downloads, not in task manager, not in uninstall applications. Nowhere.
Balasubramanian SBalasubramanian S (Avast)
