AVG interfering with Opera browser

Windows 7, AVG Zen/Protection/Tuneup Pro, Opera 37

Ever since installing the latest AVG Antivirus and Tuneup, my Opera browser (also the latest version) keeps playing up. I suspect Tuneup is interfering with it.

At random times, the browser suddenly refuses to connect to any new sites, even though my internet connection is fine and all pages that are already open continue to function normally. The only "solution" is to exit the browser and then restart it. This happens on average every 10 to 30 minutes.

I have removed Opera from Tuneup's live optimisation, which might have helped slightly, but doesn't stop the problem.

Mainly I want to bring this to the attention of AVG so they can check whether their program is incompatible with Opera.

Hello Roberta,

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused.
We are sure that  AVG PC tuneup shouldn't be causing this issue, it should  be our AVG protection program.
To confirm  this we request you to disable our AVG protection program temporarily by following the instructions mentioned in this link: http://avgread.me/1BVxDSY and do let us know the status of it.

Right...

Switching off AVG protection (from the menu option) solves the problem completely, but of course I don't want to be online permanently without protection!

Repairing AVG as described in the link has helped a lot, but not solved it 100%. I ran a repair on "AVG" (Zen), Tuneup. Protection, and then Zen again just to be sure it picked up any changes in the other two. The browser can go twice as long now (20-30 minutes) without jamming, but it does eventually jam.

Oh, hang on! The problem might be with Opera after all.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled Opera, and deleted one of the extensions that seemed to be a bit problematic, and it seems to be running much more smoothly. Fingers crossed that it's fixed! And apologies for possibly maligning an innocent AVG.

Just to give closure, reinstalling Opera 37 still didn't quite solve the problem, but reverting to Opera 30 seems to have fixed everything.

Many thanks to all at AVG for your rapid and helpful replies!

I don't currently have AVG, I only have Microsoft Security Essentials, but the latest Opera 38 is jamming when I try to download anything, and this then makes it not work properly for other things.

Peter, Quote "I don't currently have AVG".. You've posted on the AVG Support Community!!. Don't you have any AVG products installed on your system @ all??. If you were thinking of using AVG AntiVirus you'd have to uninstall Microsoft Security Essentials.
