Slow scanning

Since 14 March 2016 the daily AVG scan of my computer has been taking, on average, 2 hours and 30 minutes.  This is unusual, previously it took about 30 minutes with an occasional 1 hour 20 minutes (not often).  The scanning time is seriously affecting whatever else I want to do on the computer.  Is there anything I can do about this, please?
I run Windows XP and my licence number is [license number removed] .I have not installed any new software recently and my main activity has been creating Word, Excel and Publisher files.  No major changes to the system this year.

Hello Dorothy,
We request you not to share any personal information(Email address, License/order #) in public forum due to security reasons. We are sorry to know that the scanning by your AVG program takes much time. I would like to keep you informed that AVG scanning time usually depends upon the memory size. Are you using a latest version(2016) of your AVG program? Is the scanning process getting completed successfully without any difficulties? Are you able to identify the exact hard drive for which the scanning process takes much time? You can also schedule your scan by following the instructions in http://avgread.me/1KBqgGO .Thank you.

Thank you Rajarajan, my product name is AVG Internet Security 2013 (Full, 3 computers) and the AVG version is 2013.0.3553. The Antivirus version is dated today, the LinkScanner version is 2857 and the Anti-Spam version is 7.0.1.  I renew AVG every year but the "2013" in the name doesn't change.  I have 1.25 GB of Ram.   Is this what's holding up the scanning?

Dear Balasubramanian
Thank you so much for your instructions on loading the 2016 version.  All the links worked very well, I now have the newer version and the last scan took 16 minutes - WOW!!  I suppose I want to know why I've been renewing and still getting the 2013 version but I'm not complaining at this time.
Thanks again, Dorothy xx

Hello Dorothy,
That's great to hear your issues has been resolved now. Please be informed that only the Virus definition updates will be performed automatically, the program updates must be done manually after the release of the each version every year. Please feel free to contact us for further assistance.
Thank you.

Hello, I am having issues too, i kinda of fixed it by restarting after installing the avg. The scan for performance issues is taking a lifetime even after i restarted the pc but at least now i am given a percentage so it might eventually complete the scan. I don't know why the scan for performance issues takes this long. i been trying to do a scan for hours and it doesnt seem to get the last part done. please help.

correction it says scan complete and the percentage went away but yet it still says scanning for performance issues and i am not given any results yet either. maybe its because i have the free version it isnt saying what the results are or giving me any options to do anything. i am getting frustrated that i been trying and it is not completing the final step for performance issues.

Hello Angie,

We are sorry to hear this. Could you provide the screenshot of AVG window where it shows the performance scan progress?
