Running Windows 10 AVG Free edition
Update does not complete and gives a message "Update has detected running installation.  Complete that installation before starting update"
I cant find any other installation running
I cant uninstall because it comes up with the same error message.
Any suggestions please?

Had same problem.  Followed advise on another chat to stop "Windows Installer" in Task Manager and then run the AVG update.  Worked fine.  Seems to be a bug in Windows 10.

Ridiculous that AVG REFUSES to do a 3rd party fix over the net. Don't they have paid technicians???

Hello Darren,
We regret for the inconvenience caused. Are you experiencing difficulties in updating your AVG program? Is it a paid or free version? Could you please elaborate the issue and provide us with more details? Thank you.

Hi,
My problem is somewhat different and I could not find an answer so far.
I am running a paid version of AVG Internet Security (ver. 16.91.7688)
After upgrading Windows 7 Home to Windows 10 on a Sony VAIO, AVG asks for reboot to complete the update.
The only component that remains inactive is Protection of personal data. And it clearly says "Reboot Required" to get full protection (or something like this - I'm running it in Russian).
The problem is, it asks for reboot at EVERY startup as soon as AVG loads. I have rebooted at least 10 times to the same result. What gives? Do I have to reinstall or is there a simpler way?

Thank you for the detailed explanation.
Yes for this issue it is better to completely reinstall the AVG program using the AVG remover tool.
1) To download AVG remover tool, please click on this link: http://aa-download.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_Remover.exe
2) Run the downloaded file and follow the onscreen instructions.
3) Restart your PC when the restart option is displayed on the remover tool screen.
NOTE: Once you have logged into your PC after the restart, please go to C:\ drive and delete the "AVG REMOVER" folder manually.

To download the AVG free antivirus, please click on this link: http://www.avg.com/us-en/avg-antivirus-free .
Please feel free to contact us if you need any assistance.
