tried initiating this feature with no success - anyone else had this problem

Hello Kevin,

We apologize for the inconvenience caused. In order to initiate the boot time scan, we request you to open the AVG Internet Security program, you will find a settings icon next to the "Scan computer" button. Click on the boot time scan. Once the PC is rebooted, the scan may take a while to complete. If you are having any issues in running the scan, please follow the instructions to repair the AVG program.

1. Go to Start -> Control Panel.
Note: Click Settings first if Control Panel is not available in the Start menu.
2. Open (Programs) -> Programs and Features, or Add or Remove Programs.
3. Select AVG Protection in the list of programs.
4. Click the Change or Change/Remove button.
5. Select Repair.
6. Follow the instructions on your screen to complete the installation.
7. Restart your computer.
Please follow the instructions and feel free to contact us for further help.

Thank you.

Boot-Time Scan used to work for me with my prior version of AVG Free.  Unfortunately, after I did a clean install of the latest version of AVG Free it no longer works.  Initially it said "not activated".  I clicked the tile and it showed it installing but remained at 0% for a very long time.  When I hit the back arrow it said "Success.  Boot-Time Scan will run after reboot."  I clicked reboot but scan did not run.  "Not activated" no longer shows on Boot-Time Scan tile, but nothing happens when it is clicked.  I use AVG Clear AND AVG Remover as well as Add/Remove programs.  I am running Windows XP Home.  Clicking Repair runs repair but does nothing to change the issue.  I have downloaded extractor versions 1606 AND 1817 with no difference. Can you please provide me with a link to an older version of AVG Free?  Thanks!

Since I do not have any paid/trial AVG products, how will they work with me?  Your help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks.  - Kurt  :)

Hello Kurf,

If you are using free version, then please let me know the version of AVG installed in your computer and also send us the screenshot(http://avgclick.me/getscreenshot) of the AVG Windows, where AVG Boot time scan is unavailable.

Hello Karthikeyan,

Please find attached screenshots of my AVG Free Version and the non-functioning Boot-Time Scan tile.  Also of note is that Antivirus Free launches from my desktop instead of Zen with this version.  Additionally, I have attached a screen shot showing how Last Scan and Virus Definition times always incorrectly show "a few seconds ago".  Thanks again for all of your help.  I look forward to a version where the reporting and functionality have been restored.  - Kurt  :)User-added imageUser-added imageUser-added image

Hello Kevin,

Thank you for providing the screenshot. We are aware of this issues and have escalated this case to the senior team. This will be resolved soon. Your patience is much appreciated.

Hello Karthikeyan,

Thanks for escalating this case.  Just to let you know that I (Kurt K.) sent the screenshots.  "Kevin" is the gentleman that opened this discussion thread.  I am not 100% sure we are having the same issues.  The senior team may or may not need to know this.  In what might be a related issue, a Deep Scan halted and appeared to hang.  When I abandoned and exited the scan, it said "Success".  How will the resolution to this case be communicated?  Will I receve some sort of notification?  Again, all of your help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks!  - Kurt  :)

You are most welcome, Kurt.
Thank you for understanding the situation.
When the fix is found we will release through program updates, hence I recommend you to update your AVG Antivirus regularly and check the issue with Boot time scan.
You can also post here to inquire about the status of this fix.

I too am not being able to get boot time scan to work as the first initial states.

I keep trying to download but it never downloads, then tells me to reboot my machine when I go back, then when it comes back up, it still doesn't run the boot time scan.

Boot Scan shows "Not Installed". I have run "Repair AVG" as mentioned above and still doesn't ever install or update. Windows 10 Pro on 2 different computers have the same problem. I am really starting to regret buying AVG Internet Security. AVAST Free was working great on both computers before I uninstalled it in favor of the paid version of AVG Internet Security. I am very disappointed with AVG at this point.

I have solved my issue. It turns out that AVG Boot Time Scan will not install while the antivirus Weebroot Secureanywhere is active on a computer. Since Webroot worked well alongside AVAST I mistakenly believed that would be true with AVG as well. Sadly this is not the case. Even after uninstalling Webroot, rebooting, uninstalling AVG and rebooting, Installing AVG again and rebooting - the Boot Time Scan still would not install. Then I thought to search the registry for possible leftovers from Webroot. And there left behind after a "full" uninstall of Webroot was the registry entry for wrsa.exe, Webroot's main program file. After deleting the wrsa.exe folder from the registry and rebooting again, the AVG Boot Time Scan finally installed, I set it to Scan, and upon reboot the AVG Boot Time Scan now functioned properly. I am disappointed that AVG and Webroot Secureanywhere will not coexist well, but can only place 1/2 the blame on AVG.

For some reason having Webroot Secureanywhere alongside AVAST Antivirus does not impair functioning of the AVAST Boot Time Scan at all. Oh well, live and learn.

Robert, we appreciate your expertise with this conflicts..

We are glad that you found a solution for this "Boot time scan" issue. This will be helpful to most of our customers.

Having more than one security will conflict with each other and will slow down the computer performance.

It is always recommended to use only a single security program on your computer.
