How to entirely shut down AVG AntiVirus so it is not running in background

Hi, I recently made the switch from Avast to AVG on my Mac and have been having trouble with the program. My preferred use of Antivirus (while not recommended, I know) is to keep it disabled and only use it to scan when I want to at my convenience. I had no problems with Avast, I disabled it and only reenabled/updated the virus registry when needed, but AVG is different. Yes, I can disable AVG protections, but even when I quit the application, AVG is still running in the background doing whatever, updating me every day that it updated the virus registry. I want this to STOP.

I have tried force quitting the process but initially saw forcequit wouldn't do anything. So I opened up terminal and use sudo to Kill the exact PID of the AVG process, but that doesn't work either. In fact, it seems that as soon as AVG is forced to quit it instantly turns back on under a different PID. There is absolutely no way I can kill it permanantly that I've been able to find. Hopefully there is someone here that can help, if not I'm going back to Avast.

Sorry for the delay, Gerald.

We appreciate your efforts, but unfortunately, we do not have option to disable it completely. However, we have taken this as a feedback and escalated to our developer's team as a feature request.

Alan, That is a link to an AVG Support Chat. Unless you are implying i copy/paste my post in there, it does not help me with the issue I've described above.

That's dissapointing to hear. I loved AVG on my PC, it's a shame that the Mac version behaves like malware, and as such i've removed it from my system. Thank you for getting back to me.
