INSTALLING AVG FREE 2015

ATTEMPTING TO INSTALL AVG FREE 2015, I RECEIVE THE FOLLOWING ERROR MESSAGE JUST AS INSTALLATION FILES ARE DOWNLOADED:

"Error loading type library/DLL (0xC007001D)"

I CAN WORK AROUND THIS BY INSTALLING AVG FREE V.9 WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM.

Dear Avinash ~ I am afraid to say that the two applicable download installation files AVG_Antivirus_Free_692.exe and AVG_Antivirus_Free_x86_694.exe (32 bit) on the above link:
http://www.avg.com/us-en/download.prd-afh-free produce the same error message as posted at the very top of this thread.
However,  SUCCESS! SUCCESS!  using:
http://files-download.avg.com/inst/av/avg_free_x86_all_2015_ltst_222.exe, kindly offered by Norton Fern above and obtained from:  https://www.techmesto.com/avg-2015-offline-installer-standalone/

The installation file worked perfectly and I am now running AVG Antivirus Free 2015 (Build 6140).

Somehow, AVG, it would seem a critical "difference" has crept into some of your installation files.

Thanks Aravind ~ I worked through the procedure above but unfortunately the error message persists. I am beginning to think I may have a corrupt or missing operating system file though this does not explain to me why I am able to install the earlier version of AVG (V 9.0) with no trouble at all.  I am running Wndows XP (32 bit).

Same problem exactly. Bare bones WinXP SP3. Did the removal tool and reinstall and get the same error.
Doesn't anyone know what the problem was that the caused the programmer to post 0xC007001D?
Hope someone has the answer

I've run the tool, sent the data and am awaiting the solution. Should it be helpful, below is my original post from earlier today, which I deleted. (There's no need to reply to it again.)

==================================================

Hi AVG,

I have the same problem: shortly after all files have been extracted, I get a dialog with the message "Error loading type library/DLL (OxC007001D)". Installation goes no further.

User-added image

There's never been any version of AVG anti-virus, or any other AVG product, installed on my current machine setup so the problem can't be leftover files or settings. Is the installation process expecting a file to be present that isn't on my system?

My operating system is Windows XP Service Pack 3. It's a relatively recent installation and has been carefully looked after so I doubt it's infected with a virus.

Advice or assistance would be appreciated.

Ant

I am having the same prolbem with an XP Sevice Pack 3 machine as well.  Did all the above in all the suggestions and still getting the 0xC007001D error message. I think it has more to do with XP and maybe the CPU in it.  Some programs (Like latest version of LogMeIn) will not run on an older CPU using older SSE instruction set extension.
Anthony S.Anthony S.
As it happens, my machine has the SSE instruction set. If you haven't already, Norton, run the AVG SysInfo tool and see what AVG say.

Hi David,
Sorry to know that. It seems like you are installing 2016 version. Please try to install AVG using this link and check if it is working fine. http://files-download.avg.com/inst/av/avg_free_stb_all_6140p1_686.exe
Please feel free to contact us for any further assistance. Thank You.
DAVID NICHOLLSDAVID NICHOLLS
Hi Divya ~ No, No.  I'm afraid the problem still persists exactly as originally reported:
Shortly after all files have been extracted, I get a dialog with the message "Error loading type library/DLL (0xC007001D)". Installation goes no further.

[User-added image]

As mentioned from the beginning, I can install an old version of AVG Free (V.9.) so the key to this problem must lie in the way the installation program interrogates the computer in which installation is being attempted.
Anthony S.Anthony S.
Hmmm... Easy on the Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V, David.

After looking at my diagnostic report, the advice from Customer Care was... upgrade Windows (and add some RAM while you're there)--this was before instructing me to remove all traces of past installations, even though I'd explained that I've never had AVG on my machine.

I asked asked them to look at the problem again.
Pedro BearPedro Bear
I have the same problem with a bare bones installation of XP SP3 on an old laptop with limited ram (350 mb max).
I also have an old PC which does not support SSE instructions but has 2Gb ram which runs AVG 2015 OK.
This may point to this being an installed ram  problem rather than SSE as mentioned in the Anthony S post.
As with others AVG 9 runs fine.

Norton FernNorton Fern
This is not going to make anyone happy, but I found an AVG Free 2015 full offline version (not at AVG) and it installed just FINE.  I don't know if it is a CPU (SEE architicual/instuctional) problem or a RAM problem (528 MB installed), but the latest and greatest version of AVG Free will NOT install on my Windows XP Pro PC.
DAVID NICHOLLSDAVID NICHOLLS
Hi Norton! Where did you find the AVG Free 2015 full offline version (not at AVG) ~ what a mystery that it works! By the way I have an AMD Athlon 2400  2 GHZ CPU, 2 GB RAM ~  but still no go for me, I am stumped.
Norton FernNorton Fern

David, I found it on this page: https://www.techmesto.com/avg-2015-offline-installer-standalone/

The specific file I used is:  http://files-download.avg.com/inst/av/avg_free_x86_all_2015_ltst_222.exe

It seems to be working fine to me, but use at your own risk. I am hoping that AVG somehow doesn't take it down.

Anthony S.Anthony S.
So after asking Customer Care to look at the problem again I get a template e-mail reply...

AVG carefully monitors the quality of our products and the service we provide, therefore all feedback from our customers is important to us. If you have a specific experience with AVG products that you would like to share with us, we would appreciate hearing about it. If you have any queries, please feel free to contact us back.

I just did..?!

The physical RAM in my machine is only 496 MB, but I can't see that being the problem. I have three times that in virtual RAM, which is more than enough.

It was an off-line installer I was trying to run, albeit a "694" executable and not Norton's "222" above. The latter is, as far as I can tell, version 2015.0.6122, released 31 July 2015. I suspect that between then and now, AVG changed the installer software somehow and now (for some) it doesn't work.

Here are some other recent versions at FileHippo if anyone wants to try them. The one to avoid is 2016.0.7134. http://filehippo.com/download_avg_antivirus_32/history/ (http://filehippo.com/download_avg_antivirus_32/history/)

The problem with using even a slightly older version is that at some point you will need to update and unless AVG resolve this issue, that isn't going to be possible.

Anthony S.Anthony S.
Hi Sreedevi. As you can see, I've had no success resolving this issue with the SysInfo tool. Could you get an AVG technician to look into it..?

Hi DAVID NICHOLLS,

Thanks for the offline installer link, it works like a charm until AVG does an update a couple of minutes after instaling. So i just uninstalled and re-installed and diss-abled my network connection until i turned off updates until AVG get their act together. They seem to be becoming like Microsoft and trying to Push Us into upgrading our OS and PC`s as like a few of you guys in here i`m still running XP-SP3 32 Bit on and AMD 2000+(1.6GHZ with 2 GB of ram, have had it for about 10years and works fine), so if it ain`t broke, don`t fix it.. Avinash is probably running the latest and not so greatest...  ;)
DAVID NICHOLLSDAVID NICHOLLS
Hi Craig,

Pleased it worked for you ~ the real thanks go to Norton Fern ~ his post post above provided the breakthrough that got us working. Thanks again, Norton.
Anthony S.Anthony S.
There's that echo again... :/

The risk is that if you don't update the AVG software, you may not be adequately protected. Don't forget also that Microsoft stopped issuing o/s updates for Windows XP back in 2014, cautioning that XP can no longer be considered secure, period. (Whether or not and how much salt you take with that is up to you).

The problem is the installer, not the software. As such, I can see it carrying forward from release to release--unless AVG sit up and take notice,

Anthony S.Anthony S.
Hello, Avinash. I did explain that it was the off-line installer that I was having trouble with. In fact, it's the very same version you linked to. Would you please get an AVG technician to look into this?

Hello Anthony,

I guess this issue is because of low disk space on your hard drive. I would request you to free up some disk space or trying installing AVG program on the local disk where you have more free disk space. Please let us know that status of this. Thank you.
Frederick FroudeFrederick Froude
Hi AVG,
I have the same problem on an old but necessary Athlon XP 2400 running Win XP SP3, it has installed AVG Free 2015 but the updates produce the error 0xC007001D, interestingly it then tells me the update was successfull. Now I have another pc with a more recent dual core processor also running Win XP SP3 and AVG Free 2015 updates without a problem on that.
I strongly suspect an SSE instruction set problem here, the old Athlon only has SSE1.
It may not be anything AVG have done with the update installer, but the software or pc used to write it may have been updated and this SSE problem has got in.
You won't be the first software house not to notice this, but it will restrict your customer base as they leave you if it's not fully investigated and fixed.
Good luck

Hi Fredrick,
Thank you for your concern about our AVG products. To analyze this issue we will need some diagnostic information.
Please follow these steps to send us diagnostic information from your computer. This information will allow us to analyze the situation and provide you with solution:
1) Click this link http://www.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_SysInfo.exe to download the AVG SysInfo tool.
2) Run the downloaded tool.
3) Click Accept to confirm the license agreement, and then click Continue.
4) Once the screen Output created is shown, fill in any additional details, or click Attach if you want to attach any additional files, such as screenshots.
5) Click Send, fill in your email address, and then click Send again.
6) We will analyze the received files and provide you with further information.

Once the file is sent it will be analyzed by our level two technical team and they will communicate only via email.
Anthony S.Anthony S.
@Frederick So far, yours is the only reasonable explanation offered on this thread. It's a shame AVG don't seem to be listening.

@Vennila Is there really any point submitting a SysInfo report? When you do, you're not given a solution, just told to upgrade to a different version of Windows.

@Balasubramanian My problem isn't low disk space. I have over 20 GB free. By you're own admission, you're simply guessing now.

@AVG There is an issue with your installer. Would you please arrange for a technician to look into it?

Norton FernNorton Fern

To Anthony S: My version 2015.0.6122 that I installed from the link I mentioned in a previous comment in ths thread self-updated last night successfully and is now version 2015.0.6172. Unfortunately the first level support people don't know why we had trouble, or are not telling us. I get the same copy and paste replys from them that everyone else has.  What is being offered does not help, leads us in long wobbly circles, and buys the AVG programmers enough time to fix the problem (at least to this extent).

Moral of the story:  Complain until it gets fixed and be happy when it is. Just don't expect AVG to own up to anything or offer any real help.

So it's not just me.  I have difficulties with Windows XP SP3 but now realise that this problem has saved me from installing AVG 2016 free.  Having decided to remain with AVG 2015 free, I find that the 2015 installation files try to install AVG Zen and 2016 which I do not want.  If you do remove 2015, there seems to be no way back to AVG 2015, the way things are with the 2015 installation wizards.

Whatever your operating system, do not install AVG 2016 unless you really want it as it seems that there as yet no AVG removal utilty to properly clean ou AVG 2016/Zen (or, at least, I cannot find one).

AVG 2015 works beautfully.  Shame about the installation files.

Hi Norton. Thanks for the information. However, I suspect that version 2015.0.6172 is just another pre-bug, albeit more recent, version. (Unfortunately, I couldn't find an off-line installer for that version to verify that.) The ones to look out for, I imagine, are the 2016.0.XXXX builds onwards.

I concur. AVG has plainly outsourced its customer support. I'm beginning to wonder if staff are paid by the message rather than by the hour. That would explain the prompt and curteous, but ultimately fruitless replies.

Or have I spoken too soon..?
Anthony S.Anthony S.
Hello, Alok. Thanks for the reassuring message. Are you saying that the development team does actually know about this fault?
ZbynekZbynek (Avast)
Hi Anthony,
2015.0.6172 is latest version of AVG 2015 released 10/8/2015.
Thanks
Anthony S.Anthony S.
Thanks, Zbynek. I'm wondering if there's been some confusion...

Are the 2015 and 2016 versions two different versions that AVG maintains in parallel? If so, is the error is attributable only to the 2016 version and is it this version that in fact has everyone on this thread has been unwittingly reporting errors with (as Divya suggested), not version 2015?

ZbynekZbynek (Avast)
Yes, they are different versions. Unfortunately IMHO 2015 is latest version of AVG which can be installed on old CPU because 2016 contains chromium (chrome doesn't support old cpus).
Thanks
Anthony S.Anthony S.
Thanks, Zbynek. It's good to have an explanation at last.

Thanks for the heads up.
What is the solution then for those who still have an XP box for old project maintanence?
ZbynekZbynek (Avast)
Hi Donald,
You can stick to 2015 version, It might be good idea to disable program updates (virus updates should remain enabled from security reasons) to prevent possible upgrade to 2016 version.

Hello Everyone :)......Okay, I found a site where many versions of AVG downloads are located: http://filehippo.com/download_avg_antivirus_32/63492/   (Look on the far right side of the page.)  After getting the same error message as you all when trying to install the newest version, I gave up and tried finding an older version for my Win XP svc pk 3 machine. I chose the latest 2015 version, 2015.0.6140, and it installed just fine. Hope this helps!
Anthony S.Anthony S.
Just to note that the download links for all of the most recent 2015 versions on the FileHippo site seem to lead to the same download--the "222" .exe file. I'm not sure which of the 2015 versions this is.
DAVID NICHOLLSDAVID NICHOLLS
IS THIS PROBLEM EVER GOING TO BE ADDRESSED?

Having successfully downloaded AVG Free 2015 using Norton Fern's link (posted Oct 5th above), I am now getting the original problem when it tries to upgrade to (I presume) AVG Free 2016: "Error loading type library/DLL (0xC007001D)". Yes, it is back again!!!!! Fortunately it does not harm my installed version which is currently AVG 2015.0.6173, Virus db 4450/10878.

CAN SOMEONE, PLEASE, GIVE THIS PROBLEM SOME MORE ATTENTION? THANKS.
ZbynekZbynek (Avast)
Hi David,
Unfortunately 2016 version is not and most likely will not be supported on your HW because of dendency on Chromium.
Thanks
DAVID NICHOLLSDAVID NICHOLLS
Oh, what a pity. It is a shame you could not cobble together a "Hotfix" as was recently devised for people, with older hardware, who were experiencing similar problems with the installation of recent versions of Malwarebytes (versions 2.1.8. and 2.2.0). Link:

DAVID NICHOLLSDAVID NICHOLLS
No luck with installing AVG 2016 on my XP machine ~ same old problem, see my post of October 22nd above. I am currently running AVG 2015 which updates on a daily basis OK, but flatly refuses to accept the upgrade to AVG 2016 for the same old reason. It seems to me to be a problem with the installer and unless resolved, XP users (whose numbers seem to be seriously underestimated) will just have to make do.

JanJan (Avast)
Hi all,

@Karl & Roberta: This is triggered by the campaign not the update itself. We are now upgrading older AVG versions to 2016.

@DAVID NICHOLLS: I'd like to ask you for the AVG SysInfo output http://download.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_SysInfo.exe? This tool collects AVG ans System log files which are required for further analysis.

Thanks

From the "For Whatever it's worth AVG Free Department":  My older XP PC's that have an SSE1 class CPUs are currently running AVG 2015.0.6173 and are receiving database updates and ARE NOT nagging me to update to AVG 2016. Run Program Update Schedule is ON.

My newer XP PC's that have an SSE2 class or better CPUs are currently running AVG 2016.0.7227 and are receiving database updates. Run Program Update Schedule is ON.
Jack TheLabRatJack TheLabRat
I've watched the exchanges here with dismay.  I have a mixture of old and new machines in the house.  Two run with AMD Athlon 32-bit CPUs that produce the 0xC007001D error that appears throughout the accounts above.  They also lack the fabled SSE instruction extension.  I looked those up several years ago when one of the software groups where I worked was having a similar problem.  I'm willing to bet that the problem with AVG's .dll library has nothing to do with Chrome code.  Instead, not long ago in a dusty laboratory, someone accidentally misconfigured a compiler to emit SSE2 instructions. To fix the problem, one flips a command line switch and recompiles the offending library.  The compiler will replace the SSE2 instructions with macros - a little slower, but probably not noticeably so in an antivirus application.
If AVG intends to withdraw support from older CPUs, it should be clear about it so those of us who have them can move on.  As things are, AVG is wasting the good faith of the blog's contributors by offering canned pieties instead of a fix.  Two months is a long time.
Alun GAlun G
Ditto to all that Jack said above. XP sp3 and SSE1 here, my AVG free 2015 suggested an upgrade and the install bombed out with the 0xC007001D error.

I lost video on Skype a few years ago because it wanted SSE2. MS didnt admit that for years, just all web cams missing from list: ironically it was their own make of Web cam too! Chrome stopped updating over a year ago for the SSE issue too - but thankfully I use Firefox!

So after all this it is CPU architecture that did for AVG and not hard disk space, memory or Os.

Is it just the install that wants this bit of Chrome or does the AVG runtime need it?

When do we get a definitive answer to this? And when will install and system requirements be enhanced to mention this?
Robert YaegerRobert Yaeger
AVG, I hope you are listening. This problem is caused by running a version of AVG that relies on hardware that supports certain SSE extensions. Older Pentium IIIs do not. I had this same problem 2 years ago with  TURBO TAX. They found that they were using a component in .NET that relied on the SSE extensions. They eventually did their recompile with the correct switch settings and fixed the problem and sent me a working version. Also TURBO tax for the following year did not exibit this problem. I really believe this is a simple fix on your part once you understand the problem. Time to step up and fix this. There are a lot of users out here that have depended on you for years. If they are like me, they are considering upgrading to the non-free version. Your product can very easily be backward compatible. Instead you are saying "too bad, so sad, you need to upgrade". for alot of us, that would be a major undertaking. Please place a little more priority on the needs of your users. We deserve better..
JanJan (Avast)
Guys, thank you for your comments. The AVG is now using Chromium which require the SSE2 instructions to work. I don't have any solution for other than installing older version of AVG.

I'm also passing your feedback to concerned team.

Well, the best answer does not work anymore.  I found the AVG 2015 executable, right where the answer says it is. My company has not approved the use of AVG 2016 yet, so I was glad to find it.

However, when I opened the executable, I am transferred to this AVG site - http://www.avg.com/us-en/2607, explaining that 2015 is obsolete and my download will continue, but replaced with 2016 instead.

So Thanks AVG! This does not help me at all.

and with that... it looks like I'm out in the cold.... you see I have a couple old PC's 32bit not sse2 given the thread above... AND I own the avg Ultimate, wanted to upgrade the old PC's and well the error is now keeping me from putting any avg on these old PC's. So, now i have downloaded the system analyser and remover... will gladly do them again... but guess i need to find a stand alone 2015 free out there to download and get rolling - IF possible anymore??? or am I just brainfried at the moment?

@Kishore YOU Obviously totally missed the whole thread dialgoue above, huh?

Hi Monk,

We understand your concern, unfortunately, AVG 2015 is not available anymore. The latest version of AVG is 2017 and if you wish to download the free version, you can download it from http://www.avg.com/us-en/download . Also, if you wish to install the AVG Ultimate 2017 version on your computer, please get back to us and we will be glad to help you with that.

Thank you!

Greetings AVG Help,

Unfortunately I have the same problem as may others have discussed on this thread and on another earlier one.  I have a small but very useful Toshiba Portege Laptop which had an old but working version of AVG free (2014?).
Unfortunately I was recently forced to replace the hard drive.  I reinstalled Windows XP, restored most of the programmes and data from backups but had not backed up completely the AVG antivirus programme and settings. I attempted to install the most recent version of AVG Free with results the same are well documented in the posts above.  I then found version 8.5 which I installed but as soon as I tried to download updates I was given a mandatory requirement to update to a recent version which I had already tried.
The Toshiba machine has the following processor: Intel Pentium III Mobile CPU @ 933MHz  Core Stepping: tA1  Technology: 0.13 um  Core Speed:531.0 MHz  Multiplier x Bus Speed  3.5 x 151.7 MHz  Instructions sets: MMX, SSE (NB Not SSE 2) As others have pointed out more eloquently many of us for various reasons still use older computers, often because of the cost of upgrading not only the machine itself but also the peripherals and software.
On a Compaq Desktop computer (733 Mhz Pentium III with the same instruction sets (MMX, SSE)) I am happily running AVG Version 2014.0.4855 and it does update properly and regularly without difficulty.

You have told other people that they must update their hardware.  Please may I particularly point to the statement at the bottom of this and many other pages which states:" Whatever your device, we've got you covered."
I will look forward to your comments and the hope that you will be able to provide antivirus protection for older machines.
Thank you and Best Wishes

n r, The only install files available on the AVG webpage are 2017 & with Win XP you require SP3 & SSE2 (http://avgread.me/1Ewajhi).

Hi NR,
We understand your concern regarding the installation of AVG on your computer. However, since the computer has been formatted, there is no option to install the older version of AVG and also the newer version cannot be installed on it as the latest version is not compatible with SSE. The other computer already has the older version installed so it is compatible with SSE. Thank you for understanding!
Thank you!

Greetings Alan and Akash,

Thank you for your very prompt responses.
Thank you too for pointing me to those links which explained the bad news.
The Compaq computer which has an old AVG working does not have SSE2 and is a slower and older machine than the laptop.  Is there any way to copy the programme and registry data from that machine to the laptop?
Perhaps you would be good enough to look down to the bottom of this and other forum pages or follow this link:
https://support.avg.com/resource/1494476872000/support_resources/img/devices-text/device-text-en_us.png which says quite clearly that you can cover all devices.
Again I'll look forward to your comments and further suggestions in the hope that you will be able to offer protection for older computers.

Thanks and Best Wishes

n r, I'm afraid I cannot really help you. The copying you talk about cannot be carried out. Also the covering of devices actually refers to the [latest up-to-date] Windows, Android & Mac system devices.

Greetings again Alan,

Thank you for the very prompt reply although I am sorry AVG were not able to help me out.
Perhaps the statement at the bottom of the pages should say what it means and not imply all devices irrespective of age.

Thanks again and Best Wishes
