error 0xE001F90F, Set mode (2)

I purchased a license to AVG Internet Security less than a year ago, but over the past month AVG has been showing the following notification, without any input on my end.

"Your license is now activated, and your new AVG Security can now be installed"

Upon clicking "Install Now", AVG instead notifies me that the installation failed, due to error 0xE001F90F, Set mode (2)

Please be informed that we have launched our latest 2016 version of AVG Internet Security. We request you to run AVG remover tool in your pc to completely remove all traces of AVG from your pc and then install AVG Internet Security to get your issue fixed. To run AVG remover tool for AVG Antivirus please follow the below steps :
Please click on the below link to download remover tool
http://aa-download.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_Remover.exe
Accept the license agreement and then choose AVG Product and remove it.
NOTE: Once the AVG Remover Tool has done with its process. Please go to the drive where you installed this tool and look for a folder named as "AVG Remover" and I request you to delete it manually.
