Hello Frank,
We are sorry to hear that the issue persists. We suggest you to open task manager in your computer. And click on "Process" tab. Please check if any "Windows installer" process running in the background. If is running, please end the task and then try to install AVG. To open Task Manager, please follow the below step:
Press [Ctrl]+[Alt]+[Del] to bring up the Windows Security screen, which provides users with five options including Windows Task Manager. Just click Start Task Manager.
Thank you

Hi All,

I have used AVG Free for years.  Lately it has been sluggish and problematic.  Could not uninstall to install a new one.  I have tried the removal tool over and over and it seemed to remove the product from  my system. When I try to install a new AV Free, the Install fails, error 0xe0010601.   When I attemp a reinstall, it installs to 97%, then stops.  Interface is on the task bar opens, but it doesn't look the same, no "AVG AV", only "Internet Security", and doesn't respond except to offer me the trial version of Internet Security.  I'm lost.
I disabled my firewall (Zone Alarm) so it doesn't interfere, so don't think that is the problem.

Hello Marilee,
We apologize for the inconvenience. We suggest you to download and run AVG Clear tool: https://share.avg.com/steam/PSP/AVG2017/AVG_Clear.exe. This tool will help with removing antivirus component of AVG 2017 and its traces.

Open tool
User Account control - click "Yes"
Windows safe mode - click "No" (we cannot recommend use the tool in safe mode, because there is a problem with compability)
Choose installed version (AVG Free, AVG Internet Security)
Click "Uninstall"
Click "Restart computer"

Click "CONTINUE"
Select all products, and click "Remove"
Click "Restart" and restart PC
If is displayed dialog window (Open file – Security Warning) after restart, click "Run" and let AVG Remover remove traces
If is AVG Remover asking for restart PC, restart PC again
Note: Once the removal of AVG is complete, go to C Drive and delete the AVG remover folder. After which you can install AVG.

I am having the same issue. Everytime I started my computer it would warn me that AVG free needed updated but when I tried it would say it was fully updated. I uninstalled and tried to reinstall and it gets to 97% and shows the above error. I can see an AVG Zen file on my computer start menu but it is nowhere to be found for uninstalling and your link said it found no AVG files on my computer.

Any tips?

I cannot install this programme, no matter what I do it WILL NOT install. I have even tried using the built in admin account which STILL won't work. I have tried 5 times using the standard free install and the other install and nothing. The owner of the computer has a the serial number for this and still I cannot get past the error page.Any further ideas? Surely someone there MUST know why this is doing it?

I disabled windows 10 defender and still this stupid programme refuses to install so, I am giving up and will advise my customer to buy a different AV product and forget this one, aboslutley uselss and this machine is a NEW install of windows 10 64bit. I think you people need to concentrate more on your AV programme than you do on getting people to safely login to your forums.
This AV is even worse than Avast and I gave that one the flick. Bye bye AVG.

I am using AVG for years now and I am having the same problem. I have done a total reset in my computer and reinstal the OS, so this is not a problem of old AVG products missing around. I do not have Windows installer, Windows defender or firewalls interfering... This is more an issue of the new version of AVG I am afraid... Try to solve this quickly or you are losing clients every day.

Hello Ian,

I regret for the inconvenience caused. To further escalate this case, we need the screenshot of the error. I have sent you an email, please follow the steps in the email and send us the log files from your computer along with the screenshot of the error message.

What a joke. Same issue happens almost everytime a new version comes out. This is an AVG issue. stop wasting paying customers time and resolve it already.

The workaround is to use the network installer to create an install script and use a 3rd party to push it out. PDQdeploy is what I used.  Seems the latest version of AVG has some minor issues on the business side...  Syncs failing due to exceptions, remote installs failing\getting stuck.

Rob,
Sorry for the inconvenience, are you facing the same issue with installation as discussed here?

This was happening to me as well. It seems to be related to failed component downloads of the thin client installer, (evidenced by [Invalid signature] failures in AvgInstallLog.cab, if you save it from the error screen).

I was able to install successfully by downloading the full 64-bit installer (currently Antivirus_Free_x64_1818.exe at 285 MB) from https://www.avg.com/en-us/download.prd-gsr-free

Hope this helps!

I had the same problem, but someone on another forum posted this solution:

This was happening to me as well, with AVG Antivirus Free. It seems to be related to failed component downloads of the thin client installer, (evidenced by [Invalid signature] failures in the AvgInstallLog.cab, if you save it from the error screen).

I was able to install successfully by downloading the full 64-bit installer (for AVG Antivirus Free, currently Antivirus_Free_x64_1818.exe at 285 MB) from:

https://www.avg.com/en-us/download.prd-gsr-free

You may be able to do the same thing for your AVG version from http://www.avg.com/us-en/download

BTW, you'll first need to run both of these, in order:

1. https://share.avg.com/steam/PSP/AVG2017/AVG_Clear.exe

2. http://download.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_Remover.exe

Belvendran,
Did you try to run AVG Clear and AVG Remover tools as suggested above? Let us know if it is a free or paid version of AVG that you are trying to install.
