AVG creates huge temp file

Hi,

I have recently installed AVG Free in my PC running Windows 7. It seems that AVG creates a huge temporary file in my system TEMP folder. The file resides in the _avg_ subfolder, it's name is unpxxxx.tmp and is now 1.6TB (no spelling mistake here), resulting in my disk becoming full.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you very much for your interest. I have manually deleted the file yesterday (otherwise I could not work) and sine then no new file was created. I will post the screenshot if and when a new file appears. Note that this file was somehow related to my mailer (Outlook) because when I first tried to delete it I could not, because it was used by Outlook. I had to close Outlook to delete it. Note also, if it is of any use, that I have a very large mbox (around 38GB).

Hi Nikos,
We understand your concern and to check with the issue better we suggest you to uninstall and install the AVG free Antivirus again. To install the AVG free Antivirus new version please run the below tools to remove the traces.
AVG Clear tool: https://share.avg.com/steam/PSP/AVG2017/AVG_Clear.exe
1.Open tool
2.User Account control - click "Yes"
3.Windows safe mode - click "No" (we cannot recommend use the tool in safe mode, because there is a problem with compatibility)
4.Choose installed version (AVG Free, AVG Internet Security)
5.Click "Uninstall"
6.Click "Restart computer"
AVG Remover tool: http://files-download.avg.com/util/tools/AVG_Remover.exe

Once you finished with above tools please restart the PC and follow the below link to install AVG Free Antivirus.

We encountered the same problem today. Like Nikos, we deleted the file before coming to this site because it had completely choked the hard drive. But we do have this additional info. The same morning the hard drive filled, AVG detected and quarentined the following virus: PDF:UrlMal-inf [Trj].
Perhaps that is helpful.

Thank you for your information and valuable suggestions, Daniel.

We request you to remove the temo files as suggested below. Go to Run window (press windows key and R key simultaneously) and type the following comments to delete the folders.

1. Type  “Temp” and press enter, remove all the files.
2.  “%temp%” and remove all the files.
3..  %programdata% - remove the temp folder.

We are here, if you need further assistance.

Dear all,
thanks for your support. I have uninstalled and re-installed AVG Free in the way suggested by Sarath but the  huge temp file keeps appearing. I delete it but after 1 or 2 days it is created again, clogging by disk. Below is a screenshot of the temp directory as suggested  by Aravindh and Alan.

Best

Hello AVG,

I have the same problem here, using AVG Antivirus Free. In the last few months I had to delete 3 times the big tmp file (about 52 GB) created by AVG, filling all the free storage capacity of my hard disk. In exactly the same manner like Nikos Nikolaidis, I couldn't delete the file before closing MS Outlook.  Below you can find a screenshot with the exact location of the tmp file.
