Preparing your PC for installation of AVG software

Follow the steps in this article to avoid the most common installation issues when installing an AVG application on your Windows PC, and to get optimum performance from your new AVG application.

Refer to the relevant section below according to your AVG product:

AVG AntiVirus

The steps below apply to AVG Internet Security and AVG AntiVirus FREE.

  1. Check that your PC meets the system requirements below:
  • Windows 11 except Mixed Reality and IoT Edition; Windows 10 except Mobile and IoT Edition (32 or 64-bit); Windows 8/8.1 except RT and Starter Edition (32 or 64-bit); Windows 7 SP1 with Convenient Rollup Update or later, any Edition (32 or 64-bit).
  • Windows fully compatible PC with Intel Pentium 4 / AMD Athlon 64 processor or above (must support SSE3 instructions); ARM-based devices are not supported.
  • 1 GB RAM or above.
  • 2 GB free space on the hard disk.
  • Internet connection to download, activate, and maintain program updates and antivirus database.
  • Optimally standard screen resolution no less than 1024 x 768 pixels.
  1. Check that your Windows is up-to-date. For more information, refer to the following article from Windows support:
  2. Ensure no third-party antivirus, firewall, anti-spyware, anti-malware, or other security software is installed on your PC. Refer to the following article for instructions to uninstall common antivirus applications:
Windows Firewall is automatically disabled when you install AVG Internet Security, which includes Enhanced Firewall protection.
  1. Check that you are logged in to Windows as a user with administrator privileges. For detailed instructions to verify this, refer to the following article:
  2. Ensure that you are using the latest AVG AntiVirus setup file. You can download this setup file using the relevant direct link below:
  3. After downloading the setup file for your chosen AVG product, ensure you follow the exact steps in the relevant article below to install and set up the application:

AVG TuneUp

  1. Check that your PC meets the system requirements below:
  • Windows 11 except Mixed Reality and IoT Edition; Windows 10 except Mobile and IoT Edition (32 or 64-bit); Windows 8/8.1 except RT and Starter Edition (32 or 64-bit); Windows 7 SP1 or later, any Edition (32 or 64-bit)
  • Windows fully compatible PC with Intel Pentium 4 / AMD Athlon 64 processor or above (must support SSE3 instructions).
  • 256 MB RAM or above.
  • 400 MB free space on the hard disk.
  • Internet connection is needed to download and the program.
  • Optimal standard screen resolution no less than 1024 x 768 pixels is recommended.

  5. Ensure that you are using the latest AVG TuneUp setup file. You can download this setup file using the direct link below: Download AVG TuneUp
  6. After downloading the AVG TuneUp setup file, ensure you follow the exact steps in the following article to install and set up the application:

AVG Secure VPN

  1. Check that your PC meets the system requirements below:
  • Windows 11 except Mixed Reality and IoT Edition; Windows 10 except Mobile and IoT Edition (32 or 64-bit); Windows 8/8.1 except RT and Starter Edition (32 or 64-bit); Windows 7 SP1 or later, any Edition (32 or 64-bit).
  • Windows fully compatible PC with Intel Pentium 4 / AMD Athlon 64 processor or above (must support SSE3 instructions).
  • 256 MB RAM or above.
  • 300 MB free space on the hard disk.
  • Internet connection is needed to download, activate and use the VPN service.
  • Optimal standard screen resolution no less than 1024 x 768 pixels is recommended.

AVG Driver Updater

  1. Check that your PC meets the system requirements below:
  • Windows 11 except Mixed Reality and IoT Edition; Windows 10 except Mobile and IoT Edition (32 or 64-bit); Windows 8/8.1 except RT and Starter Edition (32 or 64-bit); Windows 7 SP1 or later, any Edition (32 or 64-bit).
  • Windows fully compatible PC with Intel Pentium 4 / AMD Athlon 64 processor or above (must support SSE3 instructions).

  • 400 MB free space on the hard disk.
  • Internet connection to download, activate, and maintain updates of the program.

  1. Check that your PC meets the system requirements below:
  • Windows 11 except Mixed Reality and IoT Edition; Windows 10 except Mobile and IoT Edition (32 or 64-bit); Windows 8/8.1 except RT and Starter Edition (32 or 64-bit); Windows 7 SP1 or later, any Edition (32 or 64-bit).
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Opera browser.
  • Windows fully compatible PC with Intel Pentium 4 / AMD Athlon 64 processor or above (must support SSE3 instructions).
  • 512 MB RAM or above.
  • 300 MB free space on the hard disk.
  • Internet connection is needed to download, activate, and use the program.
  • Optimally standard screen resolution no less than 1024 x 768 pixels.

  • Internet connection to download, activate, and use the application.
