AVG VPN restrictions in India

Due to cybersecurity regulations in India, we are making changes to the availability of various AVG VPN features. The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) requires all VPN providers to log information such as email addresses, IP addresses, time stamps, and more. This information must then be stored for a minimum of 5 years.

We are committed to keeping our customers’ data private and this directive is incompatible with our policy of minimizing the collection of any personal data. As a result, the following changes have been made:

  • All AVG VPN features are now unavailable while in India. If you try to connect to one of our VPN features while being physically in India, you will see the following error message: "VPN is unavailable. This feature cannot be accessed in this territory".
  • The access to Indian servers is no longer available regardless of your location.

You are still able to use our VPN features while traveling outside of India.

Affected applications

The VPN access restriction applies to the following apps and features:

  • AVG Secure VPN on Windows, MacOS, Android and iOS.
  • The VPN Secure Connection feature in AVG AntiVirus for Android.
  • The VPN Secure Connection feature in AVG Mobile Security for iOS.
  • The Secure Browser VPN feature in AVG Secure Browser PRO on Windows, MacOS and Android.
  • All VPN apps and features included in AVG Ultimate bundles.

For more information on the directive, please refer to the CERT-In Directive. For more information on our No-Log policy, refer to our VPN Policy.
