Troubleshooting the "Embarrassing" error message in AVG AntiVirus and AVG TuneUp

AVG AntiVirus FREE, AVG Internet Security, and AVG TuneUp may report the error message Well, this is embarrassing..., which stops the program from running. This issue may be caused by incorrect Windows services configuration.

If clicking Restart on the error message does not resolve the issue, set the relevant Windows services to run automatically by following steps in this article.

Instructions

These steps apply to AVG AntiVirus FREE and AVG Internet Security.

  1. Ensure you are signed in to Windows as a user with administrator permissions.
  2. On your keyboard, press the Win key and R key simultaneously to run the Windows Services console, type services.msc, and click OK.
  3. In the Services console, locate and right-click AVG Antivirus, then select Properties.
  4. Ensure the General tab is selected, click the drop-down menu next to Startup type and select Automatic. Click Apply to confirm changes.
  5. If the service stops running, click Start in the Service status section.
  6. Restart your PC and open AVG Antivirus again.

The AVG AntiVirus user interface should now load. If the program still isn't running, refer to Further recommendations for additional troubleshooting steps.
