Activating a paid version of AVG AntiVirus on Android

A subscription purchased in the AVG AntiVirus app is automatically activated on the Android device you use to make the purchase. A subscription purchased through another AVG sales channel, such as the AVG Store or an offer within another AVG product on your PC or Mac, needs to be manually activated using a valid activation code. If you want to use your AVG AntiVirus subscription on another device, you also need to manually activate it. The number of devices you can activate depends on the subscription you purchased.

Before following the activation steps in this article, ensure the latest version of AVG AntiVirus is installed on your Android device. For instructions, refer to the following article:

Activate subscription

This option only applies if you purchased your AVG AntiVirus subscription through Google Play Store.

If you change or reset your Android device, you can restore your AVG AntiVirus subscription via the Google Account that you used to purchase your subscription. This option is also useful if you want to start using your subscription on an additional device.

To restore your subscription via Google Play:

  1. Ensure you are logged into Google Play Store with the same Google Account that you used to purchase AVG AntiVirus. For instructions on how to verify this, refer to the following article:
  2. Open AVG AntiVirus and go to Menu (three lines) ▸ Remove ads.
  3. Tap (three dots) ▸ Already purchased?.
  4. Select Restore From Google Play.

The application automatically retrieves and activates your AVG AntiVirus subscription from Google Play Store.

If you purchased a subscription from the AVG Store or another AVG product on your PC or Mac, you can use this option to activate AVG AntiVirus using an activation code:

  2. Tap (three dots) ▸ Already purchased?.
  3. Select Redeem an activation code.
  4. Type or paste your activation code into the text box, including hyphens. Then tap Use This Code to complete activation.

Your AVG AntiVirus subscription is now active.

If you have a new activation code and want to change from your current subscription to a new subscription, or transfer your subscription to a different device, use this option to unlink your old subscription and then reactivate AVG AntiVirus.

To unlink your 'old' subscription:

  1. Open AVG AntiVirus and go to Menu (three lines) ▸ My Subscriptions.
  2. Write down your 'old' activation code if you want to transfer it to a different device.
  3. Tap (three dots) next to your 'old' subscription, then select Remove.
  4. Tap Remove.

To activate your 'new' subscription:

  1. Tap (three lines) ▸ Remove ads.
  2. Tap (three dots) ▸ Already purchased?.
  3. Select Redeem an activation code.
  4. Type or paste your 'new' activation code into the text box, including hyphens. Then tap Use This Code to complete activation.

Your AVG AntiVirus subscription is active.

Troubleshoot activation issues

If you experience any activation issues:

  1. Ensure you have correctly entered your activation code, including hyphens.
  2. In some cases, subscription synchronization may take up to 24 hours after purchase. If your subscription is still not active after this time, refer to the following article:
  • AVG AntiVirus 6.x for Android
  • Google Android 5.0 (Lollipop, API 21) or higher
