Updating Virus definitions and AVG AntiVirus application version

Both AVG Internet Security and AVG AntiVirus FREE use a database of known Virus definitions to identify malware and other threats on your PC, which is why it is important to ensure the Virus definitions are regularly updated. The application version refers to the user interface and all components in your AVG antivirus application. Updates to the application provide bug fixes and general improvements.

By default, AVG Internet Security and AVG AntiVirus FREE are set to update the Virus definitions and application version automatically whenever a new version is available. We strongly recommend you keep automatic updates enabled.

  2. Wait while AVG checks for virus definition updates.
  3. When the update is complete, you see the message Virus definitions are up to date.
  4. You may need to restart your PC to complete the update. If prompted, click Restart Now to immediately reboot.
