Manage startup programs

Dear Sir or Madam,

I was using AVG system utilities before and now upgraded to tuneup with the full ultimate package. However, I cannot find the option anymore where I can allow and prevent certain programs from autostarting when the system is launched. I am told that my startup is optimized now but clearly there are a lot of processes starting which I don't need and would like to delete from the auto start list. How can I do this please? Thanks very much

Kind regards,
Fab

in the previous versions I could easily find the shown application, where one could turn on and switch off program's permission to start with the whole windows system start

Hello Fabian,
Please be informed that in the latest version of the AVG PC TuneUp you could find the start up list under All Functions.
Once entered you could find the option to open Background and Startup program.
Thank you.

"All Functions"? Where do I find that? thanks very much
KishoreKishore (Avast)
Hello Fabian,
Please open your AVG PC TuneUp program. You could find Five tabs stating each components of the AVG program. The last component of the AVG PC TuneUp program will be All Functions.
You could find the option there. Please feel free to contact us for further assistance.
Thank you.

Thanks for that! I see.. However, that only brings me again to the screen "show background & startup programs". Where can I prevent certain programs from autostarting when I boot the overall system?

You are most welcome, Fabian.
Upon checking the screenshot we see that you are using the 2016 version where we have made a change in the Startup and disable startup and background program.
We have combined both Startup and Background program option together and you will have it as one option.
If you click on it, you can see both startup and background program on the same window.
We see that you already have 22 programs put to sleep. If you click on it you can find the programs that are put to sleep in which the one that are related to windows will be the startup program and the others are the background program.

Thank you so much for this detailed description but how can I prevent unneeded programs from starting automatically in the background when I boot my computer.
Fabian StolzFabian Stolz
it is quite useful that you are coming back to me so fast but I feel no one really understands my problem
Fabian StolzFabian Stolz
yes, thank you so much for your detailed description but I would really like to know I prevent unneed from starting in the background when the windows system boots - as you had it in the old version. Do you know what i mean?

You are most welcome. We are sorry that we didn't get the exact concern.
You are referring to the disabling the Startup program of your PC using the PC TuneUp program, is that right?
If that is the case, you can find the startup program on the same window that was described earlier but we should make sure that we don't disable the important windows startup feature or else there will be some issues in booting into windows.
Fabian StolzFabian Stolz
No, I am afraid. When you start your computer several programs will start as well and run in the back ground. However, a lot of them you will not need. This former version gave the option to turn certain non-system critical programs's autostart off. I refer the the first, second and third screen shot. I have the version shown in the 4th and 5th screenshot. The latest ultimate package.

Fabian,
We do understand your concern. We have updated the AVG PC tune up and the option to turn off a program during startup is not available in latest version. However, we will take your feedback and inform about this to our developers. They will work on it and restore that option soon.
Thank you!

Thanks very much for your efforts and for taking this serious. Windows 10 offers the "starup folder" which inlcudes the normal main programs to start automatically. However, this application is clearly inferior than the good old startup manager you had in the previous version. It really enhaned the "system clean up" experience. I am sure there are a lot of customers who want to see it back as well.
It is my pleasure to help you to develop excellent client solutions for the future. I would be more than happy to document the exerpience with the product as a test customer. Thanks very much.

Kind regards,
Fabian

Fabian Stolz,
From the windows task manager you can also disable startup programs.

You can change startup programs in Task Manager. To launch it, simultaneously press Ctrl > Alt > Del on your keyboard and choose Task Manager from the menu that appears. Alternatively, right-click the Start Menu icon and choose Task Manager

Than you will not need to purchase AVG anymore.

Dear AVG,
The feature to disable startup programs as described is the only reason I loaded AVG back up and the main reason I subscribe to ultimate.  If you do not bring this feature back I will no longer purchase this program.  I have been a customer for many years.
Please bring it back quickly!

Hello Steven,
We really understand your concern, the Feature to Enable/Disable is still in AVG PC TuneUp. It was not removed from the AVG PC TuneUp, you can find it under "All functions -> Show Start up and Background programs" and also under "Speed Up -> Background and Start up programs".
The name of the feature has been changed : Enable as sleep and Disable as Wake. Hope it helps. Please, feel free to let us know if you require any further assistance. Thank you.

NOT HAPPY!
One of the main reasons I purchased a subscription to PC-Tuneup was for the ability to stop certain programs from starting at windows Start.

This option to ONLY be able to put them to sleep is obserd.

I can NOT find this mentioned anywhere in AVG's Documentation. Release/patch notes etc. Some of this inconsistencyt may be due to the fact AVG has been purchased and sold manytimesin the last decade and i think evertime the new owners imagine a different direction for AVG which of course annoy's us existing customers off no end.

So I love AVG Products even with this minor setback, but I wont be renewing my subscription for PC-Tuneup (1 Month) until this issue is resolved. I will Keep with AVG Internet Security (even though I only use Firewall and AV) because it seems to work ok. I could still use PC-Tune up's other features, but because i dont NEED them, I will cause my 1 month sub to NOT renew in ***PROTEST*** Sorry AVG, you didnt think that one through very well.

Its a good thing AVG offers 1 month subs. I would never have purchased a 12 month anyway, but if I did and this happened I would be seeking a refund (if it were 12 month) because the above problem really sucks.

I dont knwo why ya'll cant just patch it.

I have exactly the same problem. The old autostart management - separated - of previous versions were just better and the only reason i used TU. The new version even doesnt display all autostart entries anymore, not good..

kind regards

Hi, we are sorry to know that you aren't happy about the new version of AVG PC TuneUp's "disable startup & background program entries".
The new version of PC TuneUp is more advanced than the old version and it includes all the entries of startup and background programs.
May I know how did you confirm that it doesn't show up all the startup entries?
