Updated AVG V17 Always does performance scan

I've ugraded to V17 and now every scan includes a performance scan.  This is 30% of the scan it seems.  Can this be turned off?  I do not wish to purchase the additional application for performance tuning, and I'm not happy that as a licensed user I have to be nagged to purchase more products after every scan.  Thanks.

Hello Elizabeth,
Sorry to hear that you are being asked to purchase additional AVG programs. I see that you have bought only AVG Internet security license. You might have installed AVG Trial PC Tuneup in your computer. Please be informed that, once the trial expires, it will prompt to purchase the paid version to fix issues in your computer. We request you to uninstall AVG PC Tuneup from Control panel- Programs list and other AVG programs except AVG Protection and restart your computer to check the status.
Please do contact us if you face any difficulties, we will assist you better.
Thank you.

I don't have AVG Trial PC Tuneup anymore.  The first scan I conducted said at the end "Hey, we found errors with your PC, try PC Tuneup".  So I did, then I was inudated with ads to purchase.  So I uninstalled everything using the AVG Clean utility, and now I'm back to normal.  But by default it does this scan regardless of if you have the trial version or not.

I just had a lenghty chat with AVG support and sadly this seems to be built into the product and you have no choice but to also have your PC scanned for tuneup and it will always nag you for purchases.  Even if you have a license.  Even if you don't have the trial tune up product.

I'm trying to use the product ad-free, but it seems no matter how much money you spend, you will always be nagged to purchase something.  I'm very disappointed in AVG with this strange marketing decision and will be looking into other products now.  I have a license until Oct, but I wonder if there's such a thing as a partial refund.

Got this today based on the chat:  "Thank you for reaching out to us with your concerns. Many of our users find these offers useful. We handpick them from our own products or those of partners we feel can add to your security or digital experience.

If you have suggestions on how these offers might be more relevant to you or less intrusive, please let us know. We are always working on improving your experience with AVG. "

To answer this - no offers are interesting or relevant in a licensed product.  I would rather do the research myself if I need something, then to be nagged in a product I purchased.  If you're looking for feedback.

I would like to see a show of hands that think in-application advertising in a licensed product enhances a digital experience?

Hello Elizabeth,
I'm sorry, we do not have option for partial refund. However, if you have installed only AVG Internet Security on your computer, then you will not receive any pop up from AVG by doing some settings. AVG Fix performance is a different program, if you will click on fix performance then it will take you to purchase AVG PC Tuneup. So I request you to install/have AVG Internet Security 2016 only on your computer. To never receive promotional pop ups from AVG (please open AVG > select Options and Advanced Settings > select Appearance > and select Never). Also check if you have installed any other AVG program on your computer (control panel > program and features), if yes then please uninstall all other AVG programs from your computer. If you have installed only AVG Internet Security on your computer and it set up as Never receive pop ups then you will not receive any pop up from AVG. Feel free to contact us again if you need any further assistance.
Best regards,
Alok.

Internet Security
I only have Internet Security installed - the only AVG product installed.  But its V17.  You are telling me to downgrade to V16?  I only have AVG Protection listed in my program and features - the only AVG product I have.

The versions are very confusing here.  Will V16 always have the most up to date software and database?   Why did I get upgraded to V17 when I ran my V16 install from 6 months ago?  Trying to watch a video
Here's me trying to watch a video this morning, with Info Popups set to 0 duration.

Actually as i think about it, AVG was bought by AVAST about a year ago.  I wonder if that is the cause of all of these problems avg is having now ?

Elizabeth, are you saying that you originally had avg internet 2016 version, and you got upsated to the 2017 version without being asked ?  Most if not all antivirus companies will usually tell you that they have a newer version available, and would you like to update to it or not.  I am not sure what avg is doing here.

Elizabeth, Version 2016 has the option to turn off those popups. I have paid antivirus only 2016.  The trick is, can you still download avg internet security 2016 from their website ?  The link is in the following:

This is what happened.  Last week I noticed that AVG was not updating the software and having an error (this is V16).  I tried updating the software a few times and it kept failling.  So I uninstalled AVG using Programs and Features, and then installed the version I had downloaded 6 months ago for installing V16.  This installed 17, not 16.  I've been struggling ever since.

Thanks Rick for the link - do you think the database will be out of date if V16 is used, not V17?  I'm worreid about limited features for security if it isn't using the latest product.  But I'll asume that most users are still on V16.

Elizabeth, i bought avg antivirus at the store last january. I then went to avg's website and downloaded the paid version. It was the 2016 version at that time, and it has been updating and blocking viruses fine..... without advertising popups because i have it set to never. Just updated today with no problem.

Hello Elizabeth,

We appreciate your patience in this matter.
Yes, the "Full computer" scan also check for performance errors. If customer wish to fix the performance errors, it will open up the page to purchase the license for PC TuneUp. This is how the program has been designed. If customer aren't interested then they can ignore the performance error that is displayed.

Appearance of pop-ups cannot be changed - only time for which the pop-up is displayed can be adjusted for selected pop-up types. You can try setting up duration for campaign popups for AVG 2017 by following below mentioned instructions:
1. Click the “Menu” button at the top right corner of the AVG Protection window and select “Settings”.
2. Please expand the “Popups” section in the General tab. AVG displays regular popup notifications,
3. You can set different duration for information, update, warning, and alert popups.
For example, you may want to disable info and update popups by setting them to “0” .

It is also not recommended to run older versions as the latest version always deliver the best performance and protection. The updates for the older version will be gradually stopped and hence it is always recommended to upgrade to the latest version.

I agree with users above AVG! This is UNWANTED and a pain.  I am looking at alternative options.  I do not need performance scans.  Not to mention, I have noticed updates auto pushing out without options to control this and settings changing over the past year.  These little things are adding up

Useless advice.  I left after all this nonsense and bought Avast.  So much happier!

Performance scan is a joke, nothing more than ADWARE,conning you into paying for a usless add on.Just had an update for my broswer, and RIP OFF AVG said my browser was out of date!!!.

There should be a feature in the program for paid users like myself to turn this CONWARE off.

Struggling with non-AVG technology? We can fix that, too!
