AVG Antivirus contains a range of components, designed to keep you and your personal data safe online. This article provides instructions to temporarily disable all AVG Antivirus protection, or individual AVG Antivirus components.

IMPORTANT: We recommend following steps in this article only when requested by AVG Support for troubleshooting purposes, as disabling AVG Antivirus protection leaves you vulnerable to attacks.

Disable all AVG Antivirus protection

  1. Right-click the AVG icon in your system tray.
  2. In the menu that appears, click the green slider next to Protection is ON.
  3. Click Yes to confirm the action.

The slider turns red (OFF), and all AVG Antivirus components are disabled. AVG Antivirus protection will re-enable automatically the next time you reboot your PC.

Disable individual AVG Antivirus components

  1. Open the AVG user interface.
  2. Click the relevant tile, for the component you need to disable:
    • Click the Computer tile to disable File Shield or Behavior Shield.
    • Click the Web & Email tile to disable Web Shield or Email Shield.
    • Click the Hacker Attacks tile to disable Enhanced Firewall or Ransomware Protection.
    • Click the Privacy tile to disable Webcam Protection or Sensitive Data Shield.
    • Click the Payments tile to disable Anti-Spam or Fake Website Shield.

NOTE: Certain tiles are only available with a paid AVG Internet Security subscription.
  3. Click the green (ON) slider below the relevant component.
  4. Select an option for when the component will automatically re-enable.
  5. Click Yes to confirm the action.

The slider below the disabled component turns red (OFF). The component automatically re-enables after your chosen time period has passed. You can also re-enable the component manually at any time by following steps 1-2 above, then clicking the red (OFF) slider, so it immediately turns green (ON).
