When you activate the paid version of AVG Secure Browser, you can choose from our full list of VPN locations. Additionally, you can use Device Wide VPN, which allows all of the apps on your device to connect securely to the internet via AVG VPN servers. With the free version of the app, the VPN is only available when you are using AVG Secure Browser.

How do I install AVG Secure Browser?

  1. Click the button below to download the AVG Secure Browser setup file, and save it to a familiar location on your PC (by default, downloaded files are saved to your Downloads folder). Download AVG Secure Browser for Windows
  2. Right-click the downloaded setup file avg_secure_browser.exe and select Run as administrator from the context menu.

How do I upgrade to AVG Secure Browser Pro?

To purchase AVG Secure Browser Pro, tap Upgrade now in the top-left corner of AVG Secure Browser homepage, then follow the on-screen instructions.

After the payment is processed, you may need to activate your subscription by either signing in to the app with your existing AVG Secure Browser Account, or creating a new AVG Secure Browser Account. If your subscription does not automatically active, follow the additional steps below:

  1. Tap the Current user icon in the top-right corner.
  2. Tap Create Account / Sign in.
  3. Enter the email address that is linked to the Google Account you used to purchase AVG Secure Browser Pro, then tap Create account / Sign in.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to sign in to your AVG Secure Browser Account.

After you successfully sign in to the app with your AVG Secure Browser Account, the app recognizes your Pro subscription.

Features

What is the Security & Privacy Center?

The Security & Privacy Center is a console of tools and features that allow you to manage your online activity. Most features are enabled by default to offer our highest level of security and privacy. Via the Security & Privacy Center, you can personalize AVG Secure Browser by manually enabling or disabling certain features, and access tools such as Private Mode, Privacy Cleaner, and Hack Check.

To open the Security & Privacy Center, click the green Security & Privacy Center icon in the top-right corner of the AVG Secure Browser screen.

The Security & Privacy Center is a console of tools and features that allow you to manage your online activity. You can personalize AVG Secure Browser by manually enabling or disabling certain features, and access tools such as VPN and Adblock.

To open the Security & Privacy Center, tap the Security & Privacy Center icon in the top-right corner of the screen.

What is AVG AntiVirus?

The AVG AntiVirus tile in the Security & Privacy Center detects if AVG AntiVirus software is installed on your PC. Click Free download on the AVG AntiVirus tile to install it. Alternatively, if AVG AntiVirus is installed, click Open to open AVG AntiVirus.

What is Secure Browser VPN?

Secure Browser VPN functions as a private tunnel through the internet, which encrypts your data and secures your connection when using public Wi-Fi connections, such as those in cafes or airports.

If you have not already installed Secure Browser VPN, go to the Security & Privacy Center, then click Try for free on the Secure Browser VPN tile to install it.

After installing AVG Secure VPN, you need to purchase a paid subscription, or register for a free-trial version before using the product.

What is Anti-Fingerprinting?

Anti-Fingerprinting is a feature available in AVG Secure Browser version 100 and earlier. If you have AVG Secure Browser version 101 or later, refer to the Privacy Guard section.

Websites and ad networks can use your unique browser configuration, referred to as your browser fingerprint, to track you. Your browser fingerprint consists of data related to your device configuration, browser, and history of your online behavior, which is continuously stored while you interact with webpages. Anti-Fingerprinting helps disguise your digital fingerprint to prevent websites from identifying and tracking you without your consent. This feature is disabled by default.

To enable Anti-Fingerprinting, go to the Security & Privacy Center, then click the slider on the Anti-Fingerprinting tile so that it changes from gray (OFF) to green (ON).

The Anti-Fingerprinting feature can hide information that certain websites need to operate properly. If you encounter problems with a website you normally visit while Anti-Fingerprinting is enabled, you can temporarily disable the feature. Go to the Security & Privacy Center and click the slider on the Anti-Fingerprinting tile so that it changes from green (ON) to gray (OFF).

What is Adblock?

Adblock stops advertisements from loading on the webpages you visit, which improves the speed and safety of your browsing sessions. Adblock is enabled by default.

To disable this feature, tap the Security & Privacy Center at the top-right corner of the screen, then tap AdBlock is On so that it changes from green (ON) to gray (OFF).

What is Web Shield?

Web Shield blocks malicious websites and phishing attempts while you browse the web. It also prevents you from downloading potentially malicious content from the web, which may try to infect your device. Web Shield is enabled by default.

To disable this feature, go to the Security & Privacy Center and click the slider on the Web Shield tile so that it changes from green (ON) to gray (OFF).

What is Anti-Tracking?

Anti-Tracking is a feature available in AVG Secure Browser version 100 and earlier. If you have AVG Secure Browser version 101 or later, refer to the Privacy Guard section.

Anti-Tracking protects your privacy by preventing websites, analytics companies, advertising networks, and other web services from tracking your online activity. It also uses filters to completely remove web bugs, tracking scripts, and other information collectors from the sites you visit. Anti-Tracking is enabled by default.

To disable this feature, go to the Security & Privacy Center and click the slider on the Anti-Tracking tile so that it changes from green (ON) to gray (OFF).

What is Private Mode?

Private Mode is a privacy feature that prevents your browsing history from being stored, and deletes any tracking cookies or web caches you acquire during your Private Mode browsing session.

To open a webpage in Private Mode, go to the Security & Privacy Center and click Launch window on the Private Mode tile.

What is HTTPS Encryption?

HTTPS (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure) is a more secure version of the standard HTTP connection. HTTPS adds encryption that prevents others from eavesdropping, and helps ensure that you are connected to the intended server. The HTTPS Encryption feature in AVG Secure Browser ensures that each website you visit uses an HTTPS connection where supported. HTTPS Encryption is enabled by default.

What is Password Managers?

Password Managers allows you to have multiple, safe passwords securely stored in one location to automatically sign into your online accounts with one click.

To set up password manager, go to the Security & Privacy Center, click the Password Managers tile, then use the drop-down menu to select which password manager you want to use.

What is Extension Guard?

Extension Guard prevents untrusted extensions (also known as add-ons and plug-ins) from being installed in AVG Secure Browser. This feature is enabled by default.

To disable Extension Guard, go to the Security & Privacy Center and click the slider on the Extension Guard tile so that it changes from green (ON) to gray (OFF).

What is Privacy Cleaner?

Privacy Cleaner clears your browsing history as well as other data stored in your browsers, such as cached images and cookies. This protects your privacy and clears disk space on your PC.

To use Privacy Cleaner to clear your history, go to the Security & Privacy Center and click Launch cleaner on the Privacy Cleaner tile.

What is Webcam Guard?

Webcam Guard gives you more control over which websites can access your webcam. Each time a website you visit tries to access your webcam, a notification appears asking you to Allow or Keep blocking the website. This feature is enabled by default.

To temporarily disable Webcam Guard, go to the Security & Privacy Center, then click the slider on the Webcam Guard tile so that it changes from green (ON) to gray (OFF).

What is Video Downloader?

The Video Downloader feature allows you to easily download video and audio content from your favorite sites.

To use this feature, click Menu (three dots) in the top-right corner of AVG Secure Browser, and select the Video Downloader icon. Then, select Download next to the video you want to download.

All the videos you download are encrypted and stored in the Media Vault.

To use this feature, tap the Download icon that appears in the search bar when a video is detected. You can then rename the video file, define a folder location where you want to download the video, and tap Save.

Video Downloader may not be compatible with all websites.

How can I manage inactive tabs in AVG Secure Browser?

The Performance settings section allows you to boost the performance of your device by suspending inactive tabs in AVG Secure Browser. To access this feature, go to Menu (three dots) ▸ Settings, then scroll to the Performance section. Configure the options below according to your needs:

  • Improve computer performance: Suspends open, inactive tabs after a specified time period, which improves the performance and speed of both your browser and device. Click the gray (OFF) slider so that it changes to green (ON).
  • Advanced performance settings: Define AVG Secure Browser's actions when your device is plugged in or running on battery, specify how long inactive tabs stay open before AVG Secure Browser suspends them, and specify applications or websites that will never be suspended.
A suspended tab is not permanently removed unless you manually close it. Select a suspended tab and click the refresh icon to reload the content.

What is VPN?

The VPN (Virtual Private Network) functions as a private tunnel through the internet, which encrypts your data and secures your connection. You can connect to the internet through multiple, simultaneous VPN connections, and assign a VPN location to each AVG Secure Browser Mode. AVG Secure Browser automatically connects to the fastest location server. To access all VPN locations, and enable Device Wide VPN to disguise your location for all of your apps, upgrade to AVG Secure Browser Pro.

To enable the VPN in AVG Secure Browser, tap the Security & Privacy Center at the top-right corner of the screen, then tap VPN is OFF so that it changes from gray (OFF) to green (ON).

To change your VPN location, you first need to upgrade to AVG Secure Browser PRO. Once the app is activated, open the Security & Privacy Center, tap the VPN panel, and select your preferred location.

What is PIN lock?

PIN Lock allows you to keep your browsing history and data safely locked within AVG Secure Browser. After you enable PIN Lock and set your PIN, you cannot open AVG Secure Browser without it. If you lose or forget your PIN, AVG Secure Browser cannot recover your PIN for you.

To enable PIN Lock:

  1. Tap the Menu (three dots) icon at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Tap Settings (the gear icon).
  3. Select Security & Data Settings.
  4. Tap Set PIN code.
  5. Enter your PIN, then tap confirm.
  6. Use the drop-down menu next to PIN code timeout to define when AVG Secure Browser will prompt you for your PIN.

What is Fingerprint unlock?

If your device has a fingerprint sensor enabled, you can also use your fingerprint to unlock AVG Secure Browser. You can enable this feature when you set your PIN or via the app Settings.

To enable this feature:

  1. Tap the Menu (three dots) icon at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Tap Settings (the gear icon).
  3. Select Security & Data Settings.
  4. Tap the slider next to Fingerprint unlock so that it changes from gray (OFF) to green (ON).
This feature will only work if the fingerprint sensor on your device is already enabled and your fingerprint is already set.

What is Media Vault?

When you download media files, AVG Secure Browser encrypts the files and stores them in your Media Vault. You can only decrypt and access downloaded media using our built-in media player.

To access Media Vault, tap the Menu (three dots) icon at the bottom of the screen, then tap Media Vault. Your encrypted files are organized by type. Tap a file type to access the contained media files, then open your chosen file using AVG Secure Browser's built-in media player.

How can I remove site data?

If you visit a website that you don't want to save data for, even if this data is encrypted, you can remove all the saved data associated with that domain.

To remove data associated with a site:

Go to the site, tap the Menu (three dots) icon at the bottom of the screen, then tap Nuke this site.

How do I check if a site's connection is secure?

When visiting different websites with AVG Secure Browser, you can check the security of a site's connection:

  1. Open AVG Secure Browser and navigate to a website.
  2. Locate the icon that appears on the left side of the address bar:
    • Lock icon: indicates that the site's connection is secure.
    • Information icon: indicates that the site is not secure or more information is available.
    • Warning icon: indicates that the site is not secure or dangerous.
  3. Click the icon you see to view a summary of the site's connection.
  1. Open AVG Secure Browser and navigate to a website.
  2. Locate the Lock icon, which indicates that the site's connection is secure.

Adblock

Adblock is a feature available in AVG Secure Browser version 100 and earlier. If you have AVG Secure Browser version 101 or later, refer to the Privacy Guard section.

What is Adblock?

Adblock helps prevent advertisements from loading on the webpages you visit, which improves the speed and safety of your browsing sessions. Adblock is enabled by default.

To disable this feature, go to the Security & Privacy Center and click the slider on the Adblock tile so that it changes from green (ON) to gray (OFF).

How does Adblock work?

Adblockers work by preventing websites from sending requests to external servers that download ads and other content on your browser. Every time you visit a website, AVG Adblock technology compares the script that the website runs against filter lists to determine what content the website can load.

The majority of the filter lists that are used by AVG Adblock are maintained by a third-party community of developers, which is not affiliated with any company.

How can I adjust the strength of Adblock?

To determine the strength of Adblock, click the Adblock icon to the right of the address bar, then click Settings (the gear icon).

The following options are available:

  • Essential: Blocks all ads that violate the industry standards for user friendly ads, such as popups and auto-playing videos.
  • Balanced (recommended): Blocks the same ads as Essential blocking, but additionally blocks other non-intrusive ads to improve the speed and safety of your browsing sessions. Some ads that are helpful when searching online will still show in this mode.
  • Strict: Blocks all ads. We do not recommend selecting this mode, as it may cause websites to not load properly, or even make certain websites completely inaccessible.

What are Adblock filter lists?

The filter lists that Adblock uses differ according to your chosen Adblock mode. The table below shows which filter lists are used by each available mode:

Can I disable Adblock on certain websites?

Yes. To always allow ads on a particular website:

  1. Open AVG Secure Browser and navigate to the website that you want Adblock to ignore.
  2. Click the Adblock icon to the right of the address bar.
  3. Click Allow ads on this site.

Adblock no longer blocks any ads when you visit this site.

 

Alternatively, you can pause Adblock for the current browsing session by following the steps below:

  1. Click the Adblock icon to the right of the address bar.
  2. Select the Pause Adblock button and choose one of the following options:
    • Pause on this site: Adblock does not block ads on the current website during this browsing session.
    • Pause on all sites: Adblock does not block ads on any websites during this browsing session.

Adblock is now paused. When you close and reopen AVG Secure Browser, Adblock is no longer paused and prevents advertisements according to your chosen Adblock mode.

Privacy Guard

Privacy Guard is a feature available in AVG Secure Browser version 101 and later. If you have AVG Secure Browser version 100 or earlier, refer to the Adblock section.

What is Privacy Guard?

Privacy Guard prevents ads from loading on the web pages you visit and trackers from downloading tracking scripts onto your device, which improves the privacy and safety of your online activity. Every time you visit a website, Privacy Guard compares the script that the website runs against filter lists to determine what content the website can load or download.

To disable this feature, go to the Security & Privacy Center and click the green (ON) slider on the Privacy Guard tile so that it changes to gray (OFF).

How can I adjust the strength of Privacy Guard?

To determine the strength of Privacy Guard, click the Privacy Guard icon to the right of the address bar, then click Settings (the gear icon).

The following blocking options are available:

  • Basic Blocking: Blocks all ads that violate the industry standards for user friendly ads, such as pop-ups and auto-playing videos. As well as all known trackers that follow you around while you surf the web.
  • Balanced Blocking (recommended): Blocks all Basic Blocking ads and trackers in addition to social media ads, improving the speed of your browser and keeping your online identity safe while you surf the web.
  • Strict Blocking: Blocks all known ads, push notifications, all known and unknown trackers, and prevents browser fingerprinting. We do not recommend this level of blocking, as it may cause websites to not load properly, or even make certain websites completely inaccessible.
  • Strict Blocking PRO: Available in AVG Secure Browser PRO, blocks all search engine advertising. Additionally, your search history and search results will no longer be personalized, it will be as though you are searching for the first time.

What are Privacy Guard filter lists?

The filter lists that Privacy Guard uses differ according to your chosen blocking state. The table below shows which filter lists are used by each available mode:

Can I disable Privacy Guard on certain websites?

Yes. Privacy Guard allows you to set your own level of privacy according to your preferences while you surf the web.

To always allow ads on a particular website:

  1. Open AVG Secure Browser and go to the website that you want Privacy Guard to ignore.
  2. Click the green Privacy Guard icon to the right of the address bar so that it changes to red (OFF) .

Privacy Guard no longer blocks any ads or trackers when you visit this site.

Alternatively, you can completely turn off Privacy Guard by following the steps below:

  1. Click the green Privacy Guard icon to the right of the address bar.
  2. Select the Settings (the gear icon) in the top-right corner. Privacy Guard settings will open.
  3. Click the green Privacy Guard so that it changes to red (OFF) .

Privacy Guard allows you to set your own level of privacy according to your preferences while you surf the web.

What is Browser fingerprinting?

Browser fingerprinting is only available if Privacy Guard is set to Strict Blocking. To enable, click the Privacy Guard icon to the right of the address bar, then click Settings (the gear icon) and select Strict Blocking.

The browser fingerprint method (also known as device identification) collects specific data about your entire online activity, your browser type/version, operating system, add-ons, screen resolution, and various other active settings on your device. Browser fingerprint can be active even if cookies are off or tracking protection is enabled.

Additionally, browser fingerprinting can be used to fully or partially identify individual users for security reasons, such as accessing your online bank account. Most banks use browser fingerprinting to protect you from fraud or identity theft, therefore the remember my device option will not work if Privacy Guard is set to Strict Blocking.

To disable Browser fingerprinting, click the Privacy Guard icon to the right of the address bar, then click the Browser fingerprinting blocked icon so that it changes to gray (OFF).

AVG Secure Browser PRO

What does AVG Secure Browser PRO include?

AVG Secure Browser PRO includes all of the same features as AVG Secure Browser, plus it automatically encrypts your internet connection via fast, unlimited built-in VPN with over 30 locations, and allows you to automatically block all ads and trackers.

Can I use both AVG Secure Browser and PRO together?

AVG Secure Browser PRO is an upgraded version of AVG Secure Browser. If you upgrade to the PRO version, it will replace the free version on your device.

Do I need to provide my payment details to start the free trial?

Yes. To start your 30-day free trial of AVG Secure Browser PRO, you need to add your payment details and email address.

If you do not want to continue using the paid features, you need to cancel the trial subscription before it ends. If you do not cancel the trial subscription, you are charged for the next subscription period on the last day of your free trial.

How do I activate my subscription?

Can I use my subscription on other devices?

Yes. You can use your AVG Secure Browser PRO subscription on up to 5 devices (Windows and Android).

Where do I find my subscriptions?

  1. Open AVG Secure Browser PRO.
  2. In the top-right corner, click Menu (three dots), then click Settings.
  3. Under My subscriptions, click Review my subscriptions at AVG. Your AVG Account subscriptions open.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Follow the steps below to cancel your subscription:

  1. Open AVG Secure Browser PRO.
  2. In the top-right corner, click Menu (three dots), then click Settings.
  3. Under My subscriptions, click Cancel my subscription. Your AVG Account subscriptions open.
  4. Under AVG Secure Browser PRO, click Unsubscribe.

What will happen if I cancel my subscription?

If you cancel your subscription, you will no longer have access to PRO features, but you can continue to use the free version of AVG Secure Browser.

Do I have AVG Internet Security or AVG Secure VPN if I have AVG Secure Browser PRO?

No. AVG Internet Security, AVG Secure VPN, and AVG Secure Browser PRO are separate products and require subscriptions for each.

Do I also have VPN on my mobile if I have a Secure Browser PRO subscription?

Yes, your subscription is valid across Windows and Android.

What is AVG's log policy?

What is Secure Browser VPN?

Secure Browser VPN is an advanced security feature that fully encrypts your online activity, loads webpages faster, and gives you access to over 30 locations worldwide.

To enable, click the VPN icon in the top-left of your browser, then click the red OFF slider so that it changes to green ON.

What is the optimal VPN location and why do I need it?

Optimal location is used to disguise your location. Typically, optimal location is the VPN location for your device that provides the fastest browsing experience. Optimal location is not necessarily the closest location, but may depend on your internet provider.

How can I change Secure Browser VPN settings?

To modify your Secure Browser VPN settings, go to MenuSettingsPrivacy and security and click VPN Settings. The following options are available:

  • Secure Browser VPN: Enable or disable Secure Browser VPN.
  • VPN Location: Choose your preferred VPN location.
  • Auto-connect VPN on browser launch: Automatically enable Secure Browser VPN when you open your browser.
  • Auto-connect VPN in Private Mode: Automatically enable Secure Browser VPN when you open a Private Mode Window.
  • Show Secure Browser VPN in toolbar (default): Disable to hide the VPN icon from the address bar.

What is Mimic Protocol?

Secure Browser VPN is based on a new VPN protocol that uses military grade security and connects to the internet up to 4 times faster. This feature duplicates the connection to all the websites you visit during a browsing session, which provides fake information about your identity and location so that it is impossible to identify, track, or monitor you.

How can I fix a VPN error?

A VPN error may occur because of loss of internet connection, routing problems (caused by internet providers), server problems, or other connection issues. To troubleshoot some common problems:

  • Choose another VPN location (ideally closer to your current location).
  • Disable VPN and try reconnecting.
  • Close your browser, wait 10 seconds so that all components are closed, then reopen the browser.
  • Restart your PC.

Why am I seeing an error code message?

Refer to the list below of explanations for possible error codes:

  • Error code 1: Your activation code format is invalid.
  • Error code 2: Another activation request is already in progress.
  • Error code 3: Communication with the server failed while trying to activate your code, or the server returned an empty response.
  • Error code 4: There is no valid subscription matching your activation code. The subscription may exist, but is expired, overused, or for another product.
  • Error code 5: Your free trial was already activated and can only be used once.
  • Error code 6: Communication with the server failed while trying to renew your subscription, or the server returned an empty response.
  • Error code 7: Your subscription was revoked by a user from the subscription page, or by AVG.
  • Error code 8: Communication with the server failed while checking for revocation, or the server returned an empty response.

Which Android permissions does AVG Secure Browser need?

The following permissions are necessary for AVG Secure Browser to run properly on your Android device:

Mandatory permissions

  • Full network access: ensures AVG Secure Browser's VPN can fetch, retrieve, and connect to either Wi-Fi or mobile network connection.
  • View network connections: ensures AVG Secure Browser can detect when your device is offline and adapt the network connection.

We recommend granting the following additional permissions to take advantage of all features in AVG Secure Browser:

Optional permissions

  • Storage: allows you to save, open, and manage downloaded files outside of Media Vault, and allows you to share saved files via AVG Secure Browser.
  • Photos/Media/Files: allows AVG Secure Browser to encrypt your data, and access your file storage to save your downloaded files.
  • Camera: allows AVG Secure Browser to read camera input when a QR or barcode is scanned.

What are the Browser Modes?

An AVG Secure Browser Mode groups your tabs and browsing activity into a sandbox, applying privacy settings specified to best suit each Mode type. You can open and create as many Modes as you want at any time, which allows you to quickly organize and access your favorite sites or connections. By default, all tabs open in Secure Mode.

Modes included in AVG Secure Browser:

  • Secure Mode: Your default Mode in AVG Secure Browser, which enables Do Not Track and AdBlock, DNS over TLS, upgrades connections to HTTPS, and includes the option to enable VPN.
  • Secure & Private Mode: Enables the same security options as Secure Mode, but always connects to the internet via an encrypted VPN connection, and also removes tabs after the browsing session.
  • Custom Modes: Allows you to create Custom Modes by choosing which features to enable and disable during your Custom Mode browsing session.

How do I change the default search provider?

  1. Open AVG Secure Browser and go to Menu (three dots) ▸ Settings.
  2. Scroll to the Search engine section.
  3. Click the drop-down menu next to Search engine used in the address bar and select your preferred search engine.

  2. Select your preferred search engine from the drop-down menu.

To define a search engine only for your current Mode, open the Security & Privacy Center and tap Advanced mode settings. Then tap Search Engine, and select your preferred search engine from the drop-down menu.

How do I reset AVG Secure Browser settings to default?

  1. Open AVG Secure Browser and go to Menu (three dots) ▸ Settings.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the Settings screen, and click Advanced.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the screen again and click Restore settings to their original defaults, then select Reset settings to confirm.

How do I change the browser's language?

  3. Scroll to the Languages section, and click Language.
  4. Click Add languages.
  5. Tick the box next to your preferred language and click Add.
  6. From the Advanced Settings screen, click More actions (three dots) next to the added language, and tick the box next to Display AVG Secure Browser in this language.
  7. Click Relaunch to start an AVG Secure Browser session in your preferred language.

How do I clear my browsing history, cookies, and cache?

  1. Open AVG Secure Browser and go to the Security & Privacy Center.
  2. Click Launch cleaner on the Privacy Cleaner tile.
  3. In the new Privacy Cleaner window that appears, select your preferences.
  4. Click Clear data.

How do I make AVG Secure Browser my default browser?

To make AVG Secure Browser your default browser, go to the Security & Privacy Center. If a banner appears at the top of the screen, click Make default. If a banner does not appear, AVG Secure Browser might already be your default browser.

To ensure AVG Secure Browser is your default browser:

  1. Open AVG Secure Browser and go to Menu (three dots) ▸ Settings.
  2. Scroll to the Default browser section, where AVG Secure Browser is your default browser should be visible.
  3. If AVG Secure Browser is not your default browser, click Make default.

How can I enable cookies for a particular website?

Some websites cannot function or load correctly unless cookies are enabled. You can add individual websites to your list of websites that are always allowed to use cookies:

  1. Open AVG Secure Browser and go to Menu (three dots) ▸ Settings.
  2. Go to Privacy and securitySite Settings.
  3. Under Content, click Cookies and site data.
  4. Click Add next to Sites that can always use cookies.
  5. Type the web address for the website that you want to allow (for example, www.example.com). If you type [*.] before the domain name, you add all webpages included in that domain. For example, when you type [*.]avg.com, you add all webpages that are part of the AVG domain (such as www.avg.com/store and www.avg.com/free-antivirus-download).
  6. Click Add.

How can I enable JavaScript for a particular website?

Some websites and media cannot run unless JavaScript is enabled. You can add individual websites to your list of websites that are always allowed to use JavaScript:

  1. Open AVG Secure Browser and go to Menu (three dots) ▸ Settings.
  2. Go to Privacy and securitySite Settings.
  3. Under Content, click JavaScript.
  4. Click Add next to Allow.
  5. Type the web address for the website that you want to allow (for example, www.example.com). If you type [*.] before the domain name, you add all webpages included in that domain. For example, when you type [*.]avg.com, you add all webpages that are part of the AVG domain (such as www.avg.com/store and www.avg.com/free-antivirus-download).

Can I encrypt or decrypt files that are already stored on my device?

Yes. AVG Secure Browser automatically encrypts all the files you download, but you can also encrypt files from local storage by moving them to your Media Vault, and decrypt any files in your Media Vault that you want to share.

Encrypt and save files to the Media Vault

  1. Tap the Menu (three dots) icon at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Tap Media Vault.
  3. Select the Local storage tab. If prompted, tap Allow to grant the access permission.
  4. Touch and hold the files you want to encrypt, then tap Encrypt (the shield icon).

The encrypted files are now available in your Media Vault via the AVG vault tab.

 

Decrypt and share files from the Media Vault

  1. Tap the Menu (three dots) icon at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Select Media Vault.
  3. Ensure the AVG vault tab is selected, and tap the file type you want to decrypt.
  4. Touch and hold the files you want to decrypt, tap More options (three dots), and decrypt using one of following options:
    • Decrypt and share: Select an app to share the file with.
    • Decrypt to: Select a folder on your device where the decrypted file will be stored.

How can I switch a website from mobile to desktop view?

To view a website in desktop view:

  1. Open the website you want to see in desktop view.
  2. Tap the Menu (three dots) icon at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Swipe for more options, and tap Desktop version.

The website is now in desktop view. To revert back to mobile view, follow steps 1-2 above, then tap Mobile version.

Does AVG Secure Browser protect me against DNS leaks?

Yes. AVG Secure Browser ensures that all traffic is sent through your VPN, which secures both your location and data. Additionally, you can run our DNS leak test to verify that traffic is not leaking from your private network.

What should I do if AVG Secure Browser crashes or won't open?

If AVG Secure Browser crashes or doesn't open, try the troubleshooting steps below:

  1. Close AVG Secure Browser and reopen it.
  2. If the issue persists, close AVG Secure Browser and restart your PC.
  3. If AVG Secure Browser still doesn't open, try uninstalling then reinstalling it.

What should I do if the scroll bar doesn't work in AVG Secure Browser?

The inability to scroll on certain pages in AVG Secure Browser can occur when using a third-party extension called I don't care about cookies. To resolve this issue, disable the extension and allow the use of cookies for the page. We recommend also reporting the issue to the extension vendor.

Why doesn't the aText app work with AVG Secure Browser?

This is caused by the Self-Defense setting in AVG AntiVirus, which prevents malware and apps like aText from modifying AVG Secure Browser by injecting code into the browser address space. You can only install and use the app with AVG Secure Browser when Self-Defense is disabled.

To resolve this issue:

  1. Open AVG AntiVirus.
  2. Go to MenuSettingsTroubleshooting.
  3. Untick the box next to Enable Self-Defense.
  4. Click OK, disable to confirm.

The Self-Defense setting in AVG AntiVirus is now disabled.

This may apply with other third-party apps.

How do I recover my PIN?

To protect your data from being compromised, AVG Secure Browser does not store any user data, including your PIN code, on your mobile device or our servers. Because your PIN code is the first line of defense if someone steals your device, only you can manage or disable it.

To manage your PIN settings:

  1. Tap the Menu (three dots) icon at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Tap Settings (the gear icon), and select Security & Data Settings.

If you lose your PIN and want to continue using AVG Secure Browser, you can uninstall the app from your Android device, then reinstall it.

 

Why can't I download a file from the internet?

When downloading a file from the internet, AVG Secure Browser may ask you for further verification or block the suspicious download completely. The download requires your attention if one of the following icons appears in the download bar at the bottom of the browser window:

  • File not verified: Indicates AVG Secure Browser cannot verify the download and requires your verification. To verify the download and keep the file, select Keep. To remove the file, select Discard. To avoid this error, ensure that the latest version of AVG AntiVirus is installed on your PC.
  • File blocked: Indicates that AVG Secure Browser has detected a dangerous file and blocked the download. To avoid this error, ensure you only download files from a safe and legitimate online source.

Why does AVG Secure Browser block some downloads?

AVG Secure Browser automatically blocks downloads that may cause problems on your computer or online accounts. When trying to download a file, you may see the message that the file can't be downloaded securely.

The file download may be blocked for one of the following reasons:

  • Malicious: A virus or malware.
  • Unwanted: A deceptive file that may make unexpected changes to your computer.
  • Uncommon: An unfamiliar file that is potentially dangerous.
  • Insecure: A file that is not secure or the website it is downloaded from is unsafe.
  • You are using the built-in anti-phishing protection.
