Alarm Clock Xtreme - FAQs

Alarm Clock Xtreme consists of four main features:

  • Alarm clock: view, activate, deactivate, modify, and delete existing alarms, or create new alarms directly from the home screen of the app.
  • Timer: set, name, and run multiple countdown timers at once.
  • Stopwatch: record segments of time while the stopwatch is running and share your results directly from the app.
  • My Day: view the next alarm which is scheduled, your local daily weather forecast, and a selection of daily News & Articles on various topics.

This article answers the most commonly asked questions related to the features, settings, and general use of Alarm Clock Xtreme.

Alarm clock

How do I set an alarm?

  1. Access the Alarm Clock feature either directly from the home screen of the app or tap the ☰ Menu icon (3 lines) then select Alarms. Tap the + (plus) icon in the bottom-right corner to add a new alarm.
  2. On the Edit alarm screen, configure the following settings for the alarm:
    • What time the alarm goes off.
    • On which day/days the alarm goes off.
    • The alarm sound.
    • A puzzle that dismisses the alarm.
    • How the alarm can be dismissed.
    • How the alarm can be snoozed.
    • The alarm name.
  3. When you are satisfied with your alarm settings, tap Preview Alarm to test the alarm. Alternatively, tap Save in the top-right corner to set the alarm and return directly to the home screen of the app.
  4. All set alarms are visible on the home screen of the app. Ensure the slider is set to ON (blue) next to all alarms that you want to be active. Next to the time for each alarm you see a number of small icons. These icons show the individual alarm settings, including:
    • The selected puzzle type.
    • If vibrate is enabled.
    • If online radio is enabled as the alarm sound.

NOTE: When you activate an alarm, you may be prompted to enable Alarm Clock Xtreme in your device settings, to add Alarm Clock Xtreme to your unmonitored apps, or to allow Alarm Clock Xtreme to run when Do Not Disturb is enabled. We recommend following the on-screen instructions to ensure that your alarm goes off.

How can I set an online radio as my alarm?

  1. Tap an existing alarm to modify its sound, or tap the plus icon in the bottom-right corner to create a new alarm.
  2. Tap your current alarm sound (Ringtone, Music on device, or Silent), then select TypeOnline Radio.
  3. Choose your preferred station from the list, or tap Add Online Radio and provide:
    • Name: type a name that allows you to quickly recognize your favorite radio station.
    • URL: type or paste your online radio streaming URL. A list of supported formats is available on the Android Support website.

NOTE: The online radio streaming URL is not the same as the main URL of the radio station website. For most radio stations, you can get their streaming URL from the station's radio player app. A full list of BBC network radio URLs is available here.

To edit the online radio details or remove a radio station from the list completely, tap ⋮ Menu (3 dots) next to the radio station name and select Edit or Delete.

NOTE: Alarm Clock Xtreme is unable to access and play your selected online radio station without an internet connection.

How can I change my snooze settings?

  1. Tap the alarm you want to edit.
  2. Tap Snoozed by.
  3. Modify the settings as required:
    • Snooze options: select how snooze is activated, or select No snooze.
    • Duration: select the number of minutes you want each snooze to last.
    • Auto duration: select the number of minutes the alarm sounds for before it is automatically snoozed. Select Never if you want the alarm to continue sounding indefinitely until it is manually snoozed.
    • Shorten snoozes: select the number of minutes you want to shorten each subsequent snooze by. If you do not want snoozes to shorten, select 0.
    • Max snoozes: select the maximum number of snoozes you want the alarm to allow.

To modify your default snooze settings:

  1. Tap the ☰ Menu icon (3 lines) in the top-left corner of the app interface.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Tap Alarm templateSnoozed by.
  4. Configure your chosen settings.

These snooze settings will now apply to all new alarms that you create. Snooze settings for previously created alarms remain unchanged.

How can I personalize my alarms to suit me?

To customize your alarms, first open the Edit alarm menu by tapping the alarm you want to edit from the home screen of the app. We recommend customizing the following settings:

  • Sound type:
    • Use a favorite song, or a random song from a chosen artist or playlist. You can also use an online radio station as your alarm sound.
    • Choose after how much time the alarm volume increases.
  • Puzzle:
    • Select a puzzle type which must be completed to dismiss an alarm. Options include: Math, Password, or with Alarm Clock Xtreme Pro, you can also use QR/Barcode.
    • Modify the difficulty of the puzzle, the number of problems you have to solve and the amount of time allocated for each problem.
  • Dismissed by:
    • Select a button on your device that dismisses an alarm, or allow an alarm to be dismissed by any one of several selected buttons.
  • Snoozed by:
    • Select a button on your device that activates snooze, or allow snooze to be activated by any one of several selected buttons.
    • Configure snooze duration to decrease in length with each subsequent snooze.
    • Set a maximum number of snoozes your device will allow.

You can customize your default alarm settings by tapping the ☰ Menu icon (3 lines) in the top-left corner of the app interface, then tapping SettingsAlarm template. These settings will be applied to all subsequently created alarms. Settings for previously created alarms remain unchanged.

What is QR/Barcode Scanner?

With Alarm Clock Xtreme Pro, it is possible to dismiss an alarm by scanning your chosen QR/barcode. To access this feature, tap an alarm to open the Edit alarm screen, then tap PuzzleTypeQR/Barcode.

Alarm Clock Xtreme gives you the option to Try Now by scanning a barcode. However, to dismiss an alarm using QR/Barcode Scanner, it is necessary to tap Upgrade and follow the on-screen instructions to purchase Alarm Clock Xtreme Pro.

How can I remove an alarm?

To deactivate an alarm, tap the slider next to the alarm so it changes to OFF (gray).

To delete an alarm permanently, perform one of the following actions:

  • Tap ⋮ Menu (3 dots) to the right of the alarm you want to delete, then tap Delete
  • Swipe an alarm left until it disappears.
  • Tap and hold an alarm, then tap Delete.

If you delete an alarm by mistake, you can retrieve it by tapping the Undo button that briefly appears at the bottom of your screen.

Why did my scheduled alarm not work?

If a scheduled alarm does not sound at its designated time, Alarm Clock Xtreme may have been forced to stop by another app or system setting designed to preserve your device's memory or battery. To prevent Alarm Clock Xtreme from being force stopped, you need to manage your device settings, or the settings of the other app. Try these options:

  • Add Alarm Clock Xtreme to the list of allowed or white-listed apps for any battery or memory saving apps installed on your device.
  • Enable Alarm Clock Xtreme in your Phone Manager, or go to your device Settings and enable Alarm Clock Xtreme in any sections relating to Battery, Power management, Background app management, or Protected apps.

Why isn't the radio working as my alarm sound?

Alarm Clock Xtreme is unable to access and play your selected online radio station without an internet connection. If you are using Android 5.0 or earlier, your device needs to be connected to Wi-Fi or data to use a radio station as your alarm sound. For this reason, we recommend you keep your Wi-Fi or data enabled when an alarm is scheduled. On Android 6.0 and later, Alarm Clock Xtreme can activate your Wi-Fi or data when your alarm is scheduled to access and play your selected online radio station.

Timer

How do I set a timer?

Follow these steps:

  1. Tap the ☰ Menu icon (3 lines) at the top-left corner of the app interface.
  2. Tap Timer.
  3. Enter your countdown time.
  4. Tap the Start icon at the bottom of the screen to begin the timer.

You can perform the following actions while a timer is running:

  • To increase the timer length while the timer is running, tap the +1:00 button. Each time you tap +1:00, one minute is added to the time period.
  • To pause the timer, tap the pause icon next to the timer.
  • To rename a timer, tap and hold the timer, choose Rename and type a new name. Each timer is created with a default name (for example, Timer1).
  • To delete a timer, first tap the pause icon, then tap and hold the timer and select Delete.
  • To restart a timer, first tap the pause icon, then tap the restart icon (2 arrows forming a circle).
  • To duplicate a timer, tap and hold the timer then tap Duplicate.
  • Tap the plus icon in the bottom-right corner to create and run multiple countdown timers at once.

How can I remove a timer?

To delete a timer, perform one of the following actions:

  • Swipe a timer left until it disappears.
  • Tap the pause icon to stop the timer, then tap ⋮ Menu (3 dots) and select Delete.

If you delete a timer by mistake, you can retrieve it by tapping the Undo button that briefly appears at the bottom of your screen.

Stopwatch

How do I use the stopwatch?

  1. Tap the ☰ Menu icon (3 lines) in the top-left corner of the app interface.
  2. Tap Stopwatch.
  3. Tap the play icon at the bottom of the screen to start timing.
  4. Optionally, tap Lap to record segments of time while the stopwatch is running.
  5. Tap the pause icon at the bottom of the screen to stop timing.
  6. Tap the play icon again to continue timing, or tap Reset in the bottom-left corner to return the timer to zero and erase the recorded time and lap information.

Can I share my stopwatch results?

Yes, you can share your stopwatch results directly after you use the Stopwatch function:

  • From the Stopwatch screen, tap Share in the bottom-right corner.
  • Select an email or messaging application to use for sharing your results.
  • Complete the necessary steps within the selected app to share the results.

My Day

What is My Day?

My Day is an organizational tool which allows you to view the following information on My Day Dashboard:

  • The next alarm which is scheduled.
  • Your local daily weather forecast.
  • All events which are scheduled for the day. The first time you use My Day, tap Sync my calendar to sync Alarm Clock Xtreme with any calendars that are connected to your device.
  • A selection of News & Articles on various topics.

To access My Day:

  1. Tap ☰ Menu (3 lines) in the top-left corner of the app interface.
  2. Tap My Day.

How can I customize the information I see on My Day Dashboard?

  1. Tap the ☰ Menu (3 lines) icon in the top-left corner of the app interface.
  2. Tap SettingsMy Day Dashboard.
  3. Choose which items appear on your My Day Dashboard. Options include My calendar events, Weather forecast, and News & Articles. You can also select your preferred temperature unit for the Weather forecast feature.

How can I remove adverts from My Day Dashboard?

To remove ads from Alarm Clock Xtreme, upgrade to Alarm Clock Xtreme Pro by tapping Upgrade in the top-right corner of the app interface and following the on-screen instructions.

How can I prevent My Day Dashboard from appearing every time I dismiss an alarm?

  1. Tap ☰ Menu (3 lines) in the top-left corner of the main app interface.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap May Day Dashboard.
  4. Tap the slider next to Show after alarm dismissal to it changes to OFF (gray).

Settings

How do I manage my settings for Alarm Clock Xtreme?

To access settings in Alarm Clock Xtreme:

  1. Tap the ☰ Menu icon (3 lines) in the top-left corner of the app interface.
  2. Tap Settings.

The following setting types are available:

  • General:
    • Tap the slider to enable or disable 24-hour time formatting.
    • By default, alarms sound through the speakers when headphones are plugged in. To change this, tap the slider next to Use phone speakers so it changes to OFF (gray).
    • By default, alarms are displayed on your device screen when it is locked. To change this, tap the slider next to Show alarm on lock screen so it changes to OFF (gray).
    • Tap the slider to enable or disable Vacation mode.
    • AVG collects anonymous usage statistics and error reports to help us improve the app. To opt out, tap Personal Privacy then tap the slider next to Share usage data with third parties for analytics so it changes to (gray) OFF.
  • Alarm template: configure your default alarm settings. Each time you create a new alarm it automatically matches your default alarm settings.
  • Timer: modify how timers behave. Select what sound you hear when a timer completes and customize the volume settings. By default, your device's screen remains on while a timer is running. To change this, tap the slider next to Keep screen on so it changes to (gray) OFF.
  • Stopwatch: choose whether the screen remains on while Stopwatch is running and enable use of volume control buttons to start/stop a Stopwatch.
  • My Day Dashboard: choose which items appear on your My Day Dashboar. Options include My calendar events, Weather forecast, and News & Articles. You can also select your preferred temperature unit for the Weather forecast feature.
  • Notifications: choose whether or not you are notified if no alarms are set before the start of the weekend. You can also enable or disable notifications relating to your alarms, timers, and the Stopwatch feature.

Can I keep my Alarm Clock Xtreme settings if I change or restore my device?

On Android 6.0 and above, Alarm Clock Xtreme is linked to your Google Account. This means that if you change to a new device or reset your current device, the app remembers and applies your alarms and other settings if you are signed into the same account.

To retrieve your alarms and other settings, download and install the app on your device using the same Google Account. For space reasons, auto-backup is unable to back up any custom MP3s you apply as alarm sounds.

NOTE: Auto-backup is not currently possible on earlier versions of Android.

What is Vacation mode?

When Vacation mode is enabled, all alarms are deactivated and will not go off until you disable Vacation mode. To enable Vacation mode:

  1. Tap the ☰ Menu (3 lines) icon in the top-left corner of the app interface.
  2. Tap SettingsGeneral.
  3. Tap the slider next to Vacation mode so it changes to ON (blue).

Disable Vacation mode by tapping Turn Off next to Vacation mode is enabled in the main app interface.

What is Alarm template?

The settings that you configure in your Alarm template are automatically applied to each subsequent alarm you create. To access and edit your Alarm template:

  1. Tap the ☰ Menu icon (3 lines) in the top-left corner of the app interface.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Select Alarm template and configure your alarm settings.

These settings will now apply to all new alarms that you create. Settings for previously created alarms remain unchanged.

General

How can I upgrade to Alarm Clock Xtreme Pro?

You can subscribe to the premium, ad-free version of the app by tapping the Upgrade badge in the top-right corner of the app interface. When you tap this option, you are guided through the purchase process.

How do I open Alarm Clock Xtreme?

After installing the app, the Alarm Clock Xtreme icon appears on the home screen of your device. Tap the icon to open the app. From the main app interface you can:

  • Create new alarms, or modify existing alarms.
  • Tap ⋮ Menu (3 lines) to access the Stopwatch, Timer, and My Day features.

Do I need to keep my device charging while I use Alarm Clock Xtreme?

We recommend you keep your device charging throughout the night while using Alarm Clock Xtreme to ensure your device doesn't switch off due to insufficient battery power and fail to sound an alarm.

Why did Alarm Clock Xtreme stop working?

If you notice that Alarm Clock Xtreme unexpectedly stops working (for example, an alarm doesn't sound at its designated time), Alarm Clock Xtreme may have been forced to stop by another app or system setting designed to preserve your device's memory or battery. Why does AVG show advertisements in Alarm Clock Xtreme?

AVG is pleased to offer both a free and premium version of the app. The paid version of the app is ad-free. To support the ongoing development of Alarm Clock Xtreme, the free version includes ads which are unobtrusive and do not interfere with app usage. If you want to use the app without advertisements, upgrade to Alarm Clock Xtreme Pro by tapping the Upgrade badge at the top-right of the app interface.

How can I provide feedback or ask for help?

Why is the Alarm Clock Xtreme icon no longer on my device's home screen?

Updating to a newer version of Alarm Clock Xtreme can sometimes cause the Alarm Clock Xtreme icon to disappear from the home screen of your device. If this happens, re-add the icon to your home screen. As these steps vary depending on your version of Android, refer to Android's support website for further guidance if necessary.

What are the system requirements for Alarm Clock Xtreme?

You can install and run Alarm Clock Xtreme on any device running Android operating systems 4.0.3 and above. Alarm Clock Xtreme cannot be downloaded or installed on non-Android operating systems including Symbian, iOS, Microsoft Windows Phone, Bada, or WebOS. The system settings of certain device types may also affect the operation of Alarm Clock Xtreme. If you are using a custom ROM, the app may not work as expected. Contact support to report any feedback regarding this issue.

NOTE: The automatic backup feature is only available on Android 6.0 and above.

How can I download and install Alarm Clock Xtreme?

Alarm Clock Xtreme is available to download and install from the Google Play Store:

  1. Open Google Play Store from the home screen of your device, then search for and open the information page for Alarm Clock Xtreme.
  2. Tap Install, then tap Accept if you are asked for permissions.
  3. When the installation is complete, tap Open to access the app user-interface.
  4. Tap Get Started.
  5. Select your preferred option:
    • Remove Ads Now: follow the on-screen steps to upgrade to the ad-free version of the app.
    • Continue with Ads: start using the free version of the app which contains ads.

Alarm Clock Xtreme is now installed and ready to use.

How can I uninstall Alarm Clock Xtreme?

  1. Open Google Play Store from the home screen of your device and search for Alarm Clock Xtreme.
  2. Tap Alarm Clock Xtreme to open the app information page.
  3. Tap Uninstall, then tap OK to confirm.

Alarm Clock Xtreme is no longer installed on your device.
