Explaining Android notifications about AVG AntiVirus running in the background

AVG AntiVirus is a security app for Android, designed to protect your device against unwanted phishing, malware, spyware, and malicious viruses such as trojans. To fully protect your device, AVG AntiVirus for Android needs to run in the background at all times.

Android notifications are system notifications, and are not managed or configured by AVG AntiVirus.

Why does AVG AntiVirus run in the background?

AVG AntiVirus runs in the background of your device at all times to ensure its complete and continuous real-time protection. The app is designed to have minimal impact on battery life, while protecting your device with maximum security. Running in the background is also required for certain security features to work, such as App Lock. Without the ability to run in the background, AVG AntiVirus cannot protect your device. We advise you to submit all feedback about this notification directly to Google.

How can I enable/disable the sticky notification?

To enable or disable the permanent notification in AVG AntiVirus go to AccountSettingsNotifications. Tap the slider next to Ongoing protection alert to display or hide the current security status.

In addition, the notification can be configured for minimal interruption, without sacrificing your device's safety.

These steps can differ slightly depending on your device model, Android version, and vendor customizations.
  1. Tap and pull down the Status bar.
  2. Tap and hold the AVG AntiVirus notification and select Settings.
  3. Select the type of Alerts and Notification types you prefer. Optionally, tap the slider beside Allow notifications from red (ON) to gray (OFF) to disable all notifications.
Disabling all notifications is not recommended. AVG AntiVirus requires the ability to send notifications to alert you when your security is breached.

Your AVG notifications are updated.

How can I send my feedback to Google?

  1. Open Google Play Store on the Home screen of your device.
  2. Tap your account image in the top-right corner.
  3. Select Help & feedback.
  4. Tap Send feedback at the bottom of the screen.
  5. Tap Get startedMake a suggestion.
  6. Type your feedback. For example: I think antivirus apps should be allowed to run without the sticky notification in the status bar.
  7. Tap the arrow in the bottom-right corner, then tap Continue.
  8. When asked if you want to allow Google to email you for more information regarding your feedback, select Yes or No, depending on your preference.

Your feedback has been sent.
