Installing AVG BreachGuard

AVG BreachGuard is an advanced privacy solution that prevents your personal information from being exploited online for profit.

AVG BreachGuard is a paid product that requires a subscription to use. This article explains how to install AVG BreachGuard before activating your subscription.

Install AVG BreachGuard

  1. Click the button below to download the AVG BreachGuard setup file, and save it to a familiar location on your PC (by default, all downloaded files are saved to your Downloads folder). Download AVG BreachGuard for Windows
  2. Right-click the downloaded setup file avg_breachguard_online_setup.exe and select Run as administrator from the context menu.
  3. If prompted for permission by the User Account Control dialog, click Yes.

  4. Click Install now on the welcome screen to begin installation.
  5. Wait while the Install Manager installs AVG BreachGuard on your PC.
  6. When the Welcome to AVG BreachGuard screen appears, select the relevant option:
    • Sign in: If you already have an AVG Account, click Sign in. Your default browser opens. Follow the on-screen instructions to login to the AVG Account linked with your AVG BreachGuard purchase.
    • Create account: If you do not yet have an AVG Account, click Create account. Your default browser opens. Follow the on-screen instructions to create an account by entering the email address linked to your AVG BreachGuard purchase.

AVG BreachGuard is now activated. If your email address is associated with a valid AVG BreachGuard subscription, the application activates automatically.

  1. Click the button below to download the AVG BreachGuard setup file, and save it to a familiar location on your Mac (by default, downloaded files are saved to your Downloads folder). Download AVG BreachGuard for Mac
  2. Double-click the downloaded setup file AVG-BreachGuard.dmg.
  3. Click the AVG BreachGuard icon and drag it to the Applications folder.
  4. Click GoApplications in the Apple menu bar, then double-click the AVG BreachGuard icon to open the application.
  5. When the Connect to AVG BreachGuard screen appears, select the relevant tab:
    • Log in: If you already have an AVG Account, enter your existing login credentials and click Log in. If you have multiple AVG Accounts, ensure you enter the credentials that are linked to your AVG BreachGuard purchase.
    • Create account: If you do not yet have an AVG Account, create one by entering the email address linked to your AVG BreachGuard purchase. Enter a password for your new AVG Account, then click Create account.
  6. If you are creating a new AVG Account, you may need to verify that the email address is really yours. Open the email from notification@mails.avg.com with the subject Please confirm your email, then click the Verify my email button.

If your email address is associated with a valid AVG BreachGuard subscription, the application activates automatically. If AVG BreachGuard does not detect a valid subscription, you are prompted to activate the application using an activation code.

Troubleshooting

If you experience any installation issues:

  1. Ensure your PC meets the minimum system requirements below and your Windows is up to date.
    • Windows 11 except Mixed Reality and IoT Edition; Windows 10 except Mobile and IoT Edition (32 or 64-bit); Windows 8/8.1 except RT and Starter Edition (32 or 64-bit); Windows 7 SP1 or higher, any Edition (32 or 64-bit)
    • Windows fully compatible PC with Intel Pentium 4 / AMD Athlon 64 processor or above (must support SSE3 instructions)
    • 1 GB RAM or above
    • 500 MB free space on the hard disk
    • Internet connection to download, activate, and maintain application updates
    • Optimally standard screen resolution no less than 1024 x 768 pixels
  2. Check that the downloaded setup file is not corrupted. For instructions, refer to the following article:
  3. If you use third-party antivirus software, try temporarily disabling your protection (this applies only if you do not use AVG Antivirus). For more information, refer to the following article:
  4. Restart your PC, and try again to install AVG BreachGuard by following the exact steps in this article.

If you experience any installation issues:

  1. Ensure your Mac meets the minimum system requirements below.
    • Apple macOS 12.x (Monterey), Apple macOS 11.x (Big Sur), Apple macOS 10.15.x (Catalina), Apple macOS 10.14.x (Mojave), Apple macOS 10.13.x (High Sierra)
    • Intel based Mac with 64-bit processor
    • 512 MB RAM or above
    • 300 MB minimum hard disk free space
    • Internet connection to download, activate, and maintain application updates
    • Optimally standard screen resolution no less than 1024 x 768 pixels
  2. Restart your Mac, and try again to install AVG BreachGuard by following the exact steps in this article.
