Using the AVG Uninstall Tool

We recommend using the AVG Uninstall Tool to completely remove AVG AntiVirus Free from your PC if uninstallation via the Start menu did not work or you see the setup is already running message. The AVG Uninstall Tool deletes all AVG AntiVirus files from your PC while Windows runs in Safe Mode.

Uninstall via AVG Uninstall Tool

After you complete the steps below, your PC will no longer be protected by AVG AntiVirus Free against malware and other threats.
  1. Click the button below to download the AVG Uninstall Tool and save it to a familiar location on your PC (by default, downloaded files are saved to your Downloads folder). Download the AVG Uninstall Tool
  2. Right-click the downloaded file avgclear.exe and select Run as administrator from the context menu.
    If you are unable to authorize installation of the AVG Uninstall Tool, refer to the following article for advice: Managing administrative accounts on your Windows PC.
  3. If prompted for permission by the User Account Control dialog, click Yes.
  4. Click Yes when the dialog prompts you to restart Windows in Safe Mode. Then, click Yes again to immediately restart your PC in Safe Mode.
    To manually start Windows in Safe Mode, follow the Microsoft Support article according to your version of Windows:
  5. When Windows restarts in Safe Mode, select the location of the AVG AntiVirus Free program files. The default installation location is selected automatically. You only need to make adjustments if you changed the default installation when you installed the app.
  6. Select AVG AntiVirus FREE in the drop-down menu. Then, click Uninstall.
  7. Wait while the AVG Uninstall Tool removes all AVG AntiVirus Free files from your PC.
  8. Click Restart computer to immediately reboot your PC and complete uninstallation.

AVG AntiVirus Free is now uninstalled from your PC.

Reinstall AVG AntiVirus Free

If you have a paid AVG Internet Security subscription, uninstalling the application does not automatically cancel your subscription. For information about canceling your subscription, refer to the following article: Canceling an AVG subscription - FAQs.

  5. Optionally, tick the box next to Also delete your browsing data to delete your profile information, such as bookmarks and history. Then click Uninstall to continue.
  6. Wait while the AVG Uninstall Tool removes all AVG Secure Browser files from your PC.

AVG Secure Browser is now uninstalled from your PC.
