Scan Folder via Explorer context window (right click)

Hi!

Newbie question.
Is it possible to configure AVG Antivirus free, so i can right click on a file/folder
and trigger a virus scan, via the context menu over them?

My previous (abandoned) Virus Software could do that, and it was really helpful.
I humbly accept my beating, should this be an obvious RTFM.
Did some searches over the forums thought and dint find anything.

thanks
Klaus

Derpy,
Thank you for reaching us. Yes, AVG Antivirus Free have the option to scan folders through the context menu.

Hi!
Yes, i found the setting in
Settings --> General --> Special validation
(sorry, (mis-) translated from german Settings --> Allgemein ---> Spezielle Prüfungen)

and it IS enabled. But the AVG Option does not appear in my context menus.
Please check out the attached screenshots.

regards
Klaus
PS not sure if related, but also the the log file settings seem to be ignored.
i have ran several scans over my local drives, but the standard
     C:\ProgramData\AVG\Antivirus\report\_SCAN.txt
     remains empty.

Hello Derpy,
This isn’t expected behavior. We’ll work through fixing this together. In this case, I request you to repair AVG Protection (http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-repair-AVG), update (open AVG Antivirus free > menu > settings > update) it one more time and reboot your computer once. After reboot, please check if the context menu is working fine.
Best regards,
Alok.

Hi!

Thank you for your quick responses, i really appreciate it.
I figured out the Problem (Thanks to AVG Support).
I have 3rd Party Software installed that prevented changes to the registry
(due to a malfunction - it was supposed to generate a popup, asking me to approve the change, but did not)

If this is possible at all, i would like to submit a feature request:
When the AVG installer/repair is running, is it possible to add a functionality
that double checks if the commands issued by the Installer actually make it to the OS?

From my limited understanding it should be possible for the Installer to e.g.
first try to issue a registry key change and then do a read of that key.
if the read fails, an error message can be generated (maybe in a special debug mode of the installer)

I hope this makes some (limited) amount of sense.

This issue is resolved and can be marked as such, thanks again for your help.

Best regards
Klaus Thoma
