AVG Threats Blocked Screen Keeps popping up

This window keeps popping up every two minutes.  I ran a scan and got rid of some threats but it continues to show.  Please advise on how to make the following stop.

MacOS:Spigot-AY [PUP]

.com.google.Chrome.tG5sZT

Mark,

We will have a look at it. Could you share the screenshot https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201361 of that detection message?
Provide us your MAC OS version http://https//support.apple.com/en-us/HT201260 and
AVG version.

To find out the version you can follow user manual, part 4.3. Menu in the task bar
http://files-download.avg.com/doc/AVG_AntiVirus_for_Mac/avg_avm_uma_en_ltst_03.pdf

As full path of detection is not fully visible from UI very often, please provide us with the full path. You can copy the path by right clicking on the detection path and paste it here.

I've been having similar issues.

Mac OS: 10.13.4 (17E202)
MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2012); 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7; 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

location: "/Users/~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/Default/.com.google.Chrome.ppTXsF"
the suffix on the ".com.google.Chrome.xxxxxx" has been different each time.

virus name: "MacOS:Spigot-AY [PUP]"

Hi Guys,

I understand this must be upsetting. Please upload the detected file to https://t.co/0GWDhMw7a6 and send us the URL or file hash, so I can pass it to our virus lab

Has anyone found an answer to this?

I've disabled all of my chrome extensions, cleared all my chrome cache, and run the virus scanner.

Any other thoughts?

Parrish

Hi there, it's been almost a month since this has been raised. Is there any update from AVG?
-980888528-980888528 (Avast)
Thank you for waiting, Parrish.

The link you have provided is related to screenshot. Could you share the SHA-256 hash of the  file
(e.g. e49a831834f8c89929ff6a2e019219d3d53514df0631894caff78fdcd08959da)?

Else, submit your request under the below link: http://www.avg.com/submit-sample for further assistance.

Hello All,
We have received a reply from our senior team and they have informed that the detection is correct. The file ".com.google.Chrome" is reported as threat.
You can go to the file ".com.google.Chrome" location manually and delete it.
Regards,
Alok.

Hi Alok, thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, your solution didn't work for me. Hopefully, someone else will come out with a different one. Still waiting to fix the issue, and thinking to uninstall AVG (other well-known software do not behave in such an absurd way in respect of this supposed "threat"), Thanks

Hello Fan,
The issue should be fix by deleting the file ".com.google.Chrome" from the location manually. May I know if you have deleted the file from your computer and still receiving the same detection pop up?
If yes, then please share a screenshot of the AVG detection with see details page and we will check if the file is in a different location.
You can post the screenshot here on your topic. Click on 'Answer' & then click on the 'Image' [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.
Regards,
Alok.

I had two instances of invisible files named "com.google.Chrome" on my iMac (running macOS 10.03.6). They were both in ~/Library/Google/GoogleSoftwareUpdate/ -- one in the Actives folder and one in Reports. I manually deleted both of them and, before quitting Chrome, checked my extensions and, to my surprise, found Spigot. It had been disabled, but I deleted it. Then I restarted Chrome. I got the same alert as before, about MacOS:Spigot-AY [PUP] -- and also found the two  "com.google.Chrome" files had been restored. Any further advice on how to get rid of this pesky thing?
AvinashAvinash (Avast)
Kenneth, remove spigot or any suspicious extensions from chrome.

Check the below mentioned locations on your Mac and remove all files containing spigot name:
~/Library/LaunchAgents
~/Library/Application Support
~/Library/Caches
