Is there something wrong with AVG Antivirus Free right now??
It's a red x-mark over the AVG icon (been there for days) and when I hover over it it says "AVG Antivirus: WARNING, your system is UNSECURED" and when I open the program it says "You are not protected Computer protection is turned off!" but the button "Fix now" doesn't work and when I look in Windows Security Center it says that AVG Antivirus is "On" (also Windows Firewall) and that the AVG-program states "it's activated and up to date" - so which is right??
Hello Roger, We can certainly take a look into this. Could you share a screenshot of your AVG Antivirus Free user interface to proceed further? You can post the screenshot here on your topic. Click on 'Answer' & then click on the 'Image' [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions. Regards, Alok.
I hope it was the whole picture in the file..? (could only see half of it when i clicked on the link to insert, but it's the whole picture when I look at it in my folder, so I guess it shouldn't be a problem ; )
Thank you for providing the screenshot. Please repair AVG Antivirus free http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-repair-AVG from the control panel, restart the PC and then check the status.
well, it looked at first like it would have worked (ofc I tried to restart the computer before contact to see if that was the problem itself ; ) cause when I re-started the computer it took like a minute before the red x-mark appeared, but when I only restarted it yesterday the x-mark was there from the start.. so, a small improvement, hehe, but sadly it didn't work out.. =(
what to do next? uninstall? read another comment here of one doing that but it didn't help either.. (must be something wrong in one of the update codes then, or something similar?)
I appreciate your efforts and patience in trying to fix the issue, Roger. In this case, I need to submit your concern to our senior technicians along with other diagnostic logs to analyze the issue further. I have sent you an email with steps on how to collect and upload the data required for analyzing your issue. Please check your inbox and spam/junk folder as well.
I am getting this fault on my computer as well. Not only that but the same thing is happening on all my friends & family who I have recommended to use AVG Free to.
Now, none of are protected. I have tried uninstalling on lots of these people’s PC but it does nothing.
@ Warren McMahon Warren, For your info, just in case that you are unaware, you can post the screenshot here in your topic. Click on 'Answer' & then click on the 'Image' [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions. AVG Guru
Hello Jim, This issue shouldn't happen in latest version of 18.6. Let us know the version of AVG you have installed. Open AVG Antivirus -> About -> you can check its version.
We need to determine the exact cause for this issue. Could you get connected with us directly from your own post using your account to draft you an email to follow?
Jim, we'd request you to post your query from your account so that it would be easy to locate your account and to send you the email instructions to resolve this issue, regardless of commenting on other users post.
both of our PC, running windows 7 & AVG antivirus free is giving us the same problem as other users above. Software version 18.6.3066 Virus Definition 180902-4 released date 3-9-2018. Have had problem for the past week. please help us all to fix the problem
We suggest to use our AVG clear and remover tool by referring to this article to remove the AVG Antivirus and its traces, then reinstall the AVG Antivirus Free application by following the instructions given in this article and check with the issue.
thanks for responding Vishnu. Explain to me why I have to use AVG clear & remover tool, I shouldn't have to. Iv'e uninstalled & then installed the lastest just like it has been stated, therefore it should be working but it doesn't. I know I'm not the only one experiencing this same problem. Have AVG free for 10yrs without any major issues. Please help to sort this out. Thanks Cin
Cin, we did a major update in the AVG program recently, this issue is caused by the left over traces of the older version. That is why we suggest customers to use the AVG clear and remover tool to remove the old traces of the AVG program.
Vishnu, I feel doing this will not fix the problems. I have read others have used AVG clear & remover tool for this issue & it still hasn't fix their problem. We need to sort this out please
Cin, each computer has its own configuration and we'd request to use AVG Clear and Remover tools on your PC and re install AVG, it might work on your PC.
If the issue persists, please start your own post along with a screenshot (http://avgclick.me/getscreenshot) of AVG dashboard to assist you further.
..nah.. I give up.. after two tries of installing and uninstalling the problem remains.. (yes, I tried Remove and Clear first) ..I'm sorry.. I've been a happy customer for several years but I do need a Antivirus program that works and this does not.. ty for your time and your efforts to help me, but now I will search for a new program that will help me keep my computer safe! =)
Roger, I am sorry, we had an issue which should be fixed now. If it remains, we need to collect log files to escalate this case to our senior technicians. Before that, I would like to know if you have reinstalled latest version of AVG 18.6. Could you share the screenshot of AVG version and its interface again to assist you further?
Yes, I know.. however, I do have the latest update *18.6.3066* (build 18.6.3983.0) and I've tried both Remove and Clear before uninstall/new install, but I'm just tired of spending time with this matter - it's much easier to find another program, sorry.. =P (I will probably go back to AVG when I have updated my OS/get a new computer, which comes first ; )
Roger, we realize this must be upsetting and it is not If you send us AVG log files, we will be able to analyze the root cause of the issue. Once we get that, it will be easy for us to resolve the issue completely and make sure that it doesn't happen in future. We request you to consider sending the logs for which an email instruction has been sent.
..well, after more then 2 months of trying this and that it's a bit frustrating, yes.. ^.^ ..however, to send the files once more (that's where it all started since this is my thread from the beginning ; ) can't solve anything that hasn't been solved already, right? =P ..I mean, it's not a new problem - it's the same problem, so if that didn't work before it shouldn't work now either, right? =/
..like I said, I'm just tired of this and I've decided to switch program - it's just as easy as that to get rid of the problem for the moment.. =) *and hopefully it will all work once I have upgraded OS in a near future* ^.^
Btw: I have tried AVG Remover three times now and every time it hangs up at the second Restart - so now when I installed Avast instead, that program says after a scan: (easy translated) "Several antivirus programs can cause problems. The Real Time protection is therefor in Passive Mode. Please uninstall other antivrus programs manually"
BUT, at the startscreen of Avast it says "You are protected" but I'm not really sure I am? Do I really have to wipe my harddrive to get rid of AVG so that I can start using another antivirus program?? O.O =P
Please go to Control Panel -> Programs and features -> Uninstall -> check if AVG or third party antivirus is listed there. If so, uninstall it and go to Programs Files and remove its folders. Initiate scan on Avast and check if the issue persists.
If "Uninstall Zen and framework" option is not listed then Zen framework has been removed completely.
Unfortunately it didn't help.. so I downloaded Avast Antivrus Free and met a similar problem, that - after a scan - it says that I'm "Protected" according to the startscreen, but in the message over problems it says that the program is in "Passive Mode" cause of another Antivirus program (don't have any files left now, and I did run AVG Remover and Clear once more and restarted the computer just to be sure) but at the Avast Forum one guy said that AVG and Avast have merged, now that makes sence since we can see (Avast) after your name here - but I thought (since I haven't heard of this) that it was more of a cooperative teamwork (if that's the right word? = working together, but still being two seperate companies) so it was two different programs in the foundation, but if it's the same code I truly understand why the problem remains with Avast!
Have to try another then! Kaspersky looks good - I cross my fingers that it wont be any corrupting files left from the uninstallation of Avast, so it becomes a new problem with the new Antivirus program!
Roger, you should have heard that Avast acquired AVG and from then, both companies started working together. Both companies have their respective products in the market. If we analyze the log files of AVG, we will be able to identify root cause and fix it at the earliest. If you use AVG Antivirus program, we can proceed with this matter.
("should", maybe, but I have not - I don't spend too much time at the computer anymore, so I'm not up to date of most matters: my mail inbox is full of messages hehe! ; )
Well, I have uninstalled AVG *did so when I switched to Avast* but I could download it again since it will have the same problem (downloaded 18.6 last time and did run both AVG Remover and Clean other then Repair and Update, but the problem remainded) but since this will bring me back to square one and I will keep spending time with this, I wont. (this was the reason why I switched to Avast ; )
Nah, I will try Kaspersky first - but if an similar problem will appear, then I will have no choice but go back and do so, cause there must be some corrupted files somewhere that makes it not work then.
We will see. I hope not.
(feels very bad if that's the case: you should be able to switch to another Antivirus progam without any corrupted files who is blocking the new one, right?! ; ) *I mean, to run both AVG Remover and Clean should do the trick - otherwise, what's the point?? ..to be stuck to only one Antivirus program is no freedom of choice and that's just cruel* =P
Yes, Roger. Running AVG Remover and Clear tool should remove the traces of AVG completely.
If AVG folders were removed completely but issue persists during Avast installation, try to reach our Avast support for further assistance. Else, you can proceed with installation of Kaspersky. We never interfere in choice of our customers, we always recommend to have any one security programs to avoid conflicts.
I did uninstall Avast and downloaded Kaspersky. After a scan and a mandatory update the startscreen says: (translated) - Licence is valid - No active threats are detected - Database and program is updated - All safety components are running
Now I really KNOW that I'm protected!! =) *phew*
(I did get a install/uninstall tutorial fram the Avast Forum but luckily I didn't have to use the Avast uninstall program - it worked with an simple uninstallition! ; )
Well, thanks for keeping me protected for several years! =) ..at this point, I guess I will stick to Kaspersky for a long time: It gives me the basic protection we all need, but also 200MB free and secure VPN per day! *I'm stoked!* ^.^
